I'll give it till next year and if there isn't, probably get the Second Sight version. Prefer US releases usually. |

People are like why aren't there non horror titles in October well this is the month of horror films so there wouldn't be non-horror flicks this month it would make 0 sense personally. Putting out Hud, Captain Blood, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, and other non-horror titles in October personally doesn't make any sense. If there's one thing I would've liked to see it's a new to Blu-Ray it's a Japanese horror title other than that this is a fantastic slate no matter what some people say such as Mr. Negative Ned Sean here.

Criterion Channel is streaming the 2023 restoration version of "The Dreamers". It should be the US premiere of the restoration version.
https://www.criterionchannel.com/videos/the-dreamers Don't know if Criterion will also release the Blu-ray in US. But Disney is still owning "The Dreamers" in US. If Criterion won't release the film on Blu-ray, no other US Blu-ray labels can. ("The Dreamers" is doing well on streaming. Hoping it will persuade Criterion to also pick up the Blu-ray rights from Disney.) https://www.criterionchannel.com/popular-now Last edited by jackmovie; 07-15-2025 at 11:46 PM. |

Last question regarding the thread format:
Do you guys like the releases broken apart by year? Or does it not matter? I think the thread is looking worse as each year passes, especially with all of the duplicate entries (since Criterion is putting out both 4K + BD and BD separately, and we have to add them both to account for the UPCs.) I toyed around with 2017-2025, but I'm not a fan of the new look. If you don't care, I'm thinking about breaking it up as follows: All 4K releases All BD releases Criterion Premieres Discontinued - like 400 Blows first release, 400 Blows dual format release, etc. OOP - rights related so Third Man, Nashville, etc. |

I get what you mean about having the same covers for 4K and BD next to each other though. I feel that way about the covers in the Arrow and Radiance threads I manage. This probably isn't helpful answer, but I'm fine with however you decide to to organize it. I was actually perfectly fine with how it was, even with the two identical covers being next to each other, but if you prefer to do away with the years, and just go with the sections mentioned, I'm okay with that too. I trust your judgment. Plus I think I've gotten to know you well enough, that if you're not perfectly happy with it, you'll keep trying until you feel it works. |

Not yet seen the original (a reminder to keep it on my Criterion titles want list, along with The Gunfighter), but I did see the remake at the cinema. I liked it but I wouldn't say I loved it (agree about the visuals).

I've got some ideas flowing through my mind. Regardless, I want the finished product to be as simple as possible, even if I have to add in some blurbs after each year. ![]() |

Very happy with the majority of the latest set of Criterion title announcements. The one I'm most interested in getting is Deep Crimson (love the newly-created artwork). I have Fire Walk with Me in the UK Blu-ray set of Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery, and had prior to this announcement looked at getting the Criterion US Blu-ray.

Go back this year. They’ve dramatically increased the amount of commentaries, and they’ve acknowledged they think customers seem to be more interested in them again and have been investing in them all year.

The only reason I care about what year Criterion released a disc is the mild correlation between that and the quality of the transfer and/or packaging. Maybe I’m just not the same sort of collector as others here, but I have no desire to collect every Criterion release. I’m only interested in movies I want. I’m also not interested in an alphabetical sort. If a movie I’m interested in is released by Criterion, I already know that - I don’t need to look up that it’s part of the collection. The only (still marginal) use I have for a sort is to discover new movies I’d not heard of before that are in the Collection. But in that case I’m never thinking, “I’m in the mood to watch a movie that starts with A tonight”. Other than genre, which is too amorphous to use as a sort, the primary criterion that distinguishes between types of movie for me is the release year of the movie itself. So, to the extent that I care at all, my sort criterion would be theatrical release date. As for format, at Criterion’s prices, I have zero interest in buying a Blu-ray if a 4k is also available in the Collection. So for me the format is irrelevant - I don’t want anything but the best format for each title shown. |

I'm definitely in for Altered States, which I saw long ago on DVD. The film was a real mind-trip, audacious in scope, but not overblown to the point that it lost me. Deep Crimson also seems very interesting from the synopsis, some kind of variation on The Honeymoon Killers. Not hugely interested in the other stuff.
