Microsoft’s support site adds that users cannot directly transfer purchased TV shows and movies to another service. Microsoft originally launched a movie and TV storefront in 2006.

U.S. customers can use Movies Anywhere to ‘connect select purchased movies’ with participating retailers, but that service isn’t available for customers outside North America.
If Microsoft is gone then when it comes time to Reconnect to Movies Anywhere all that content purchased via Microsoft could be gone as well.

I have several titles that are streaming only but if or when they become available on Blu-ray or UHD Blu-ray then I will purchase the disc.

Does anyone know if there was a Microsoft app for Apple, Android, FireTV, Google, Roku and others? If so, does it still work? I ask because of:

Now that there will be no more money coming into the Microsoft digital movie app it is likely only a matter of time before they turn off their movie servers altogether. Why would they continue to maintain servers that generate no revenue?

You will need to update your list of failed digital stores with this latest casualty.

No, not a pilot, just a bit of an aviation aficionado. Plus, I bought it after the HD-DVD format was pretty much obsolete, so it was really cheap.

Yea that DVD brought back a lot of memories, I did my First Solo back in 1965. Built up my experience and flight time, and soon got my Private Pilots License. It was a small Flight School with Cessna 150's and 172's. The IP's did say that if I could fly in and out of Van Nuys, I could fly just about anywhere. It had a very busy Control Tower, and you learn the Lingo right away...Yes very good Memories!

IMO, MS will phase out their movie servers over the next several months so as not to generate too much negative PR.

That list just keeps getting longer.

I have a suspicion DEG has moved to an annual report because EST is not faring well and SVOD growth is starting to flatten out. The studios have tried many things to move us physical folks to EST but maybe they have learned we are not going to budge.

It would be nice if the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) would at least make it plain when, and if, they are going to post any home entertainment spending data for 2025 and beyond.

Their website still features the section titled: "Quarterly Home Entertainment Industry Data", but they have obviously discontinued posting quarterly results with no explanation as to why. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to contact them and ask them directly, but I suspect that they won't answer as was the case when I asked Media Play News why they stopped posting their weekly sales data charts. It is like this information has become some kind of state secret now.

Apparently OLED isn’t just good at displaying data, but also wirelessly transmitting it…

“OLED screens could evolve from simply displaying information to actively transmitting it at unprecedented speeds.”

Hopefully MS allows refunds if or when the servers shut down.

From what I hear, it’s one of the better ones too in terms of A/V quality. .

Was one of the better ones...

When it comes to digital stores we have to get used to speaking in the past tense.

From the wording it appears you are correct.

At one time I believe MS thought they would own “the livingroom” via Microsoft Studios, Windows Media Center and HD-DVD.

If MS is not careful many of us may become a lot more knowledgeable with Linux and LibreOffice than we ever thought possible. I was amazed at what I can do with the default apps on the Mac Mini.

I think with A.I, what we are accustomed to is going to change beyond recognition over the next five years.

But i agree with what you say, but I do have a soft spot for them.

I have been wondering if Amazon will also drop vod services as they have shown the same signs as Microsoft. Less sales, worse customer service and even retroactively cancelling sales if the deal is to good which is a terrible business move they almost never do on physical goods. Their algorithm also doesn’t push videos anymore hiding most things to pretty specific searches.

I sometimes have no rush credits which I planned to use on a few videos but deals are so rare these days that I almost exclusively use them on kindle books. A few years ago I think they turned the price matching spiders off for digital media.

Like idk what the odds are that Amazon drops vod services but they are at a minimum for the last few years not trying to grow that sector.

My Vinegar Syndrome order has finally shipped two weeks after having placed it. So long as everything arrives in good shape I will be happy. I never have a shortage of titles to watch while I wait.
