Didn't think of that. I like this theory!

One question.... I know everyone's saying it's the '60s because of the vibe Earth-828 had, but was it ever really mentioned what year it was? I took it as it was "present day" in another universe. It doesn't really matter obviously, but it does make me wonder now.

Watched it again, the scene with Galactus
[Show spoiler] pulling Reed almost to breaking was so cool. Really showed him to be a vindictive, mean a-hole.

I wonder why they didn't use Alicia Masters instead of a made up new character.

And what happened to John Malkovich from the trailer?

This was a generally fun movie. Not a lot of action combat, but the story was interesting.
The whole warping technology reminds me of Star Trek's "beaming" technology.

I'm also reminded of Transformers' great planet devourer, Orson Welles as Unicron, a planet-sized giant capable of devouring a Planet in the Transformers The Movie film.

Sue has the strongest ability I think, then Johnny Storm Fireman, then The Thing, and then Mr. Fantastic if I had to rank the abilities.

No, it really is the 60s. Look at the VW bug that Ben lifts up, the license plate says 1964.

It was announced before the movie opened that his scenes had been cut from the finished film.

If you can see this in 3D, that's the way to go as it really amps up when the rocket takes off.

The story of the woman Surfer was interesting. I was glad they covered what happened there.

Thanks, I don't follow things like you because I don't like risking spoilers.

Another thing, I'm happy to be surprised because I've thought for the last year I had the movie spoiled for me.

[Show spoiler]I was waiting for them to lose to Galactus and he destroys the Earth while they flee on the ship. I really thought that was how it was going to end based on Thunderbolts.

I think that the fact the best thing they have to record audio on are vinyl records is probably a good indicator it's set in the 60s. Also, reporters actually writing stuff down instead of using some type of handheld recording device.

There's definitely some disparity with the tech level shown. They're capable of FTL travel but the people are still using film cameras. It's cute in a quaint retro way but not the most realistic.

Great movie. I loved seeing Sue Storm portrayed as the badass that she is and Galactus is properly terrifying.

YGL, the scene where Mr. Fantastic was asked: "are we safe?" and he said: "
[Show spoiler]I will be your champion"
really got me

I was never really into Julia Garner before.

But then they covered her in silver and now I'm in love.

Maybe the fact they didn't really embrace digital photography just shows they were more advanced - or simply wiser...

(yes I'm mostly joking but seriously, digital photography does have some serious downsides... many people have embraced analog photography and even some directors refuse to stop shooting on film)

I stayed for the first end credits reveal scene, which shows
[Show spoiler] Sue five years later, reading to her son Franklin, and then out of nowhere, Dr. Doom shows up but we don't see his face.
I guess that's enough to lead into the Avengers film unless they have something else in a TV series.

I have to look back at the pre-Avengers films to see how those linked together. I guess the end credits scenes were really the only sort of link those had too, as Thanos was not in any of the prior films other than a cameo really. Like Loki walking up to him in space. Avengers 1? I forget which one that happens in.

Establish each hero in their own film, then assemble them together to fight a new bigger threat. I guess that's the extent of the formula. I was thinking it would have a bigger build up to revealing the villain but other than the Tesseract blue cube in Captain America 1, where Red Skull is after it, not a whole lot to tie all the movies together towards a main confrontation.

Avengers 2, that was Ultron, a whole different temporary enemy.

1. I suspect everyone was a bit more civil to one another in the sixties, yes there were riots but not when the government wasnt taking sides and just suggesting everyone do the same thing for their safety.
2. Who controls the powergrid in 1960 vs 2025?, regardless of what the people want if the powers that be (excuse the pun) decide to turn off all the lights in the World, the public will just have to get on with it.
"moot", not "mute".

This movie loses a star for not having a shirtless Jonny Storm.

It's no small irony that part of the reason he's so attracted to her is that he can see himself reflected on her shiny skin.

(That shot where they first look at each other up close is just gorgeous)
