Tokyo Drifter by Suzuki. Radiance films (also 50% off at barnes and noble) has Tattooed life, Underworld Beauty, and A Tale of Sorrow and Sadness (his most bonkers) For Ozu, the favorite here is Late Spring Seven Samurai cause it is Kurosawa’s masterpiece and the new 4k restoration is amazing. Also highly recommended Kurosawa’s Dreams. One of his dreams has Martin Scorsese as Vincent Van Gogh. All have lush vivid colors. Pale Flower is a nihilistic yakuza film Tampopo is considered a “ramen western”. If you like culinary arts then this is for you Last edited by Vinyl; 07-27-2025 at 11:23 AM. |

In Connery's case, he grew up in the UK at the peak of Tolkien's cultural influence, so OF COURSE he understood Lord of the Rings. He probably passed on the role, realized it was maybe a mistake, and Jackson let him save face. Needless to say, both Keanu and McKellan were the better actors for the parts anyway. |

If you are looking Japanese titles from Criterion, what about Kill!(1968) From Kihachi Okamoto? This isn’t available on Blu-Ray by Criterion, but it is a DVD with a spine number. If you like Yojimbo, and other samurai pictures that lean Western, then this is your movie. If you’re also a fan of Sanjuro(The sequel to Yojimbo), this is also based on the same book Kurosawa was adapting before it became a Yojimbo follow-up. It’s just a more overtly comedic take on the same material. Material I’ve never read personally, but if you’ve seen both movies, then you can spot the similarities.

Why would you say that? Are you some kind of homophobe or something? Why do you care what someone does in their bedroom? As long as they are of legal age and everything is consensual, it is no ones business!
And to keep from derailing the thread and staying on topic, where the hell is Desperate Living? Last edited by Rzzzz; 07-27-2025 at 04:22 PM. |

IMO, Connery was just too BIG of an actor for the part - it would have been "Sean Connery and the Ring." He would have overwhelmed the rest of the ensemble.
ANYWAY, saw "The Unknown" from the Tod Browning set, which I got from the sale just for Joan Crawford, who is ethereal. The movie restoration is pretty good. The negative is beat up, but it looks fine for the most part. Crawford owns the camera, Lon Chaney is Marlon Brando without talking, and it's a very good suspense/thriller/drama with a solid payoff ending. |

I guess Lionsgate is tough with licensing because they really believe in physical media and now with their own store might just do their own release for titles that a label like Criterion wants.

I’m unsure if I’m the source of the “I read somewhere”, but if I am that’s what he said to me. I wish they would have DL, though. Finish up that period, I can get rid of the last double feature disc I own. |
