But when the Soviet Union failed to make it to the moon first they gave up rather than continue the fight. “For All Mankind” in Apple TV explores the idea that the Space Race would have continued if the Soviets had gotten to the moon first under the assumption the US wouldn’t have given up and kept fighting. Clarke’s novel “Imperial Earth” from 1975 acknowledged that after the Apollo program the US shifted from dramatic space exploration to pragmatic space exploitation for a number of decades. And his prediction was absolutely right. And of course he was right. That novel also talked Ansel-driving cars, hip pocket computers, video conferencing and cultured meat. Few, if any futurists are as good as ACC. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sTdWQAKzESA |

In that case, his prediction in "Imperial Earth" about spaceflight turned out to be right. I'm kind of sad that it turned out to be right. I wish humans had built a lunar outpost and gone to Mars by now. |

He bro, even though we haven’t had a bromance and I don’t know what your favorite hashtag or influencer is I would like to ask about how much you know about block chain or crypto? BTW, have you ever been the victim of quiet firing or instead have you quiet quit? English language being reduced? Uh no. Thoughtcrime or Speechcrime? No such things. Censorship has always existed and it is way less today. Anyone and everyone posts random crap on the Internet and millions even billions can read it. As for controlling the populace through the media there are definitely things like the SSA sending out emails that taxes were being eliminated on Social Security. But innumerable people pointed out the nonsense. There is counter media to virtually every belief and piece of misinformation. As for the surveillance state, government hasn’t imposed that on us. People bring Alexa into their homes on their own accord. I personally avoid smart appliances for that reason. Last edited by bladerunner6; 07-26-2025 at 07:12 PM. |

Blade Runner: Deckard spends some time enhancing a photo. 10 years afterwards in “Patriot Games” Harrison Ford plays a character that just casually looks at enhanced satellite photos.
I am surprised no one has mentioned the 1987 movie “The Running Man”. It predicted: 1) What Mick Fleetwood would like in 2017 2) A reality TV star would be running the US in 2017 3) Related, that reality TV would be a big deal 4) That a lot of reality TV would be made up 5) Motion capture would be used to create deep fakes |

One question would be, what advantage would floating cars be over wheeled cars?
+No tires. +No need to worry about roadhole pock marks or repaving roads. The controls and response would have to be so precise that there wasn't any lingering, understeer or swaying. Not easy to achieve but Drone technology seems the most precise with the spinning blades. The PS4/PS5 game Watch Dogs Legion lets you test out drones you can fly. Then there would absolutely need to be a height cap limit, so you could never get the floating car above 4 feet from the ground. Any higher up, and people are going to need pilot licenses and it would probably be a disaster. Then the risk of crashing would be much greater if it was above 4 feet floating. Or would it be like the Fifth Element, or Attack of the Clones where Anakin is driving Obi Wan in the night city of Coruscant? |

These “Which movies have predicted the future most accurately” threads invariably prove that there is always at least some overlap with “Most misunderstood books of all-time” threads.

The Space Race was indeed a race. And when one of the competitors dropped out, the other just coasted. |
