I spent over a year or more some time back picking up the individual Platinum release DVDs plus the one that came with the box so I could make the fullsize Platinum box. I also bought a cheap used copy of the Blu set on eBay and used two disc cases to make a complete series box set.

Odd question, but do any of the BD releases of the series in LatAm or Europe have a gamma bug with publishers where that's common?
Specifically looking for a release that does, to check out some oddities I've noticed, just a personal thing. |

According to “Physical Media Forever” on Twitter (I think it’s TheDiscFather’s current account), the entire franchise will be released to UHD in December:

Never forget when they claimed Chainsaw Man was going to be released here soon by Crunchyroll (ended up coming through VIZ Media 1.5 years later), then photoshopped the UK cover to remove the BBFC rating, but left the UKCR0035 SKU on there. Any US release would have the SKU FG-[XXXXX].

Cover reminds me of the ADV tin box.
One dub included huh? I'll probably switch cases with a 3-disc one since I still have the old Blu-ray digipak and the original bonus DVD with the Fly Me To The Moon extras. EDIT: 2.22 is also listed for the same day. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FJMR1VDP ![]() ![]() Last edited by Gowho; 08-04-2025 at 11:27 AM. |

It's copying the cover used for the Japanese release from 16 years ago. Only Madman bothered to copy it in the west for 1.11 (Edit: I remembered wrong, they went with the red from the JP 1.01 DVD LE, still the only English release that went with the minimalist look).
![]() https://svenge.evamonkey.com/evasite...uild/KIXA9.htm So they indeed rescued it, Also, Spanish subs? Interesting. Edit: So, 1.11 is rated PG-13, 2.22 is "Not Rated"? Yay, the guy with the "GET RID OF ANIME AGE RATINGS!" sure will be happy... Yet like with NGE, it still has a suggested rating, so one of those contradictionary ones. Yeah I don't know if I should jump on this or wait. I was expecting they would wait until 4K.
I could see them doing their own multi-cut 4K collection but it might be awhile before it happens. Maybe I should just stick with the Funi cop til then. |

This bodes well for an eventual 4K release from Gkids, though the fact that we didn't get 3.333 (finally) on the same day makes me think that there's still a rights issue related to that one that could hold things up.

I am just fine with the FUNi releases, but at least they’re back in print. Might double dip on 4Ks though, especially 3.333. I just don’t want to give up the FUNi dubs/subtitles. Even with the classic voices back again for the Prime dubs, they are vastly inferior (especially the first two).

Same thoughts exactly. Make your own ultimate editions. Hopefully spine and case have some same look uniform to them. That was my only gripe about previous release.

This appears to just be a way to get the films back in print here. I wonder if GKIDS has a nicer set planned for when they release these on 4K. If they do, hopefully they do what they did with the TV series and include the "classic" dubs.
As an aside, I'm not sure if the first two films would benefit much from 4K. |

Agree about wanting a "classic dub" release. I'm stupid and would happily pay a premium for such a set (I have all three Gkids releases of NGE so...) As for the Funimation vs Amazon debate, honestly, I've watched the Amazon releases so many times that they've grown on me. Having Amanda Winn Lee back makes it a big difference for me and there's some parts I actually prefer. I think I'd agree that the Funi dub is superior overall but not by as much as it used to. |

I think the Prime dubs get a bit better as they go along. 1.11 starts out really rough, especially with Allison Keith’s Misato. She gave the best performance of her career IMO in the FUNi dub, but she sounded ill in the first half of the Prime dub. I agree that having Amanda Winn-Lee back is definitely a plus. 2.22’s Prime dub is definitely listenable, but some of the writing and performances are stiff, and the sound mixing is eh. 3.33 has about the same level of quality for both, although part of that is FUNi having some of the same restrictions as Prime. I’m also no fan of Dubbing Brothers’ quirk of leaving the Japanese voices in for some screams. Honestly, I think a solid compromise is FUNi dubs for 1-2 and Prime for 3-4. That time skip helps it make sense, plus the Rei in the latter two films is different. |
