Default The Doors - Classics Remastered

Hi, can anyone confirm if this release is Region B locked or Region Free?

Thanks.

Haven't run it through any BD scans, but looks like it is Region B locked based on my copy of it.

A year later, but I’m wondering if anyone confirmed if it’s region locked. The release page was never updated, and also says it’s a 2-disc set, but what’s on the second disc?

I'd give it a 99% probability of being B-locked, which is standard practice for Studio Canal BDs. The 2nd disc is extras:

Deleted scenes with introduction by Oliver Stone (43:30) [1080i 50hz]
"Jim Morrison: A Poet in Paris" documentary (52:09) [480i]
"The Doors in L.A." featurette (19:37) [1080i 50hz]
"Making-Of" vintage featurettes and trailers (17:04) [1080i 60hz]

Couple of 50hz encodes in there and I assume the 2nd disc is also B-locked. SC definitely goes out of their way to make their releases incompatible with anywhere outside the territories where they operate.

Yes, your 99% probability is correct... I can confirm both discs 1 & 2 are region B locked.

There are also some more extras on disc 1:
New interview with Oliver Stone
New interview with Lon Bender, mixer for the new Dolby Atmos mix
Audio commentary with Oliver Stone (original theatrical cut)

I guess I should also enquire if there's any possibility of the UHD getting a release here? Belated I know, but I'd certainly buy it

Frustratingly, after buying the Classics Remastered 1080pBD release, perhaps a year or so ago, a 4K release, in Australia, is being released this month:

Luckily, I have a good friend who is/was a big fan of The Doors. Will pass it on to him.

Yeah. After posting, I realised there is no BD copy of the film, and I always like to keep a Blu-Ray copy of every film that I have a 4K copy of.
Not only for the extras, but just in case my one and only UHD BD player has gremlins.

If I have to buy a new 4K BD player, depending on the time of year, it may take up to 3 months before I could purchase a new player. On the other hand, I have 4 ways to play Blu-Rays if my Sony X700 fails (Panasonic BD recorder, Soniq Multi-Region BD player, PS4, PS3), and 5 ways, if the BD’s are Region Free OR Region A discs, as I can utilise my US model Sony BD player.

So yeah, in retrospect, I will be holding on to the 1080pBD after all.

Ummm...the upcoming local 4K release does come with a Blu ray copy, with Special Features included. Maybe not all the special features from other editions overseas (I think there was a 4 disc U.K version) but surely the same special features that were on the last Blu ray release here.

Yeah, that has the BD of the film and it's missing the extra disc with 2 hours of additional extras. Best bet would be to combine the 4K ser with the extras disc from the BD we got a couple of years back, which I scored for peanuts so it's no major loss for me.

So… The Final Cut is NOT on the UHD, only the theatrical and hence why they have a 1080pBD (and that’s the 2 Blu-Ray in the set).

With the Blu-Ray release, there was a bonus disc. I thought the 2 discs in the 4K release would be the UHD (with both cuts) and the bonus disc, not a 1080pBlu-Ray copy.

Suppose I can keep the bonus disc set (Edit: as Alister M mentioned above: Simultaneous post), and pass on the 1080pBD from the Blu-Ray to my mate. While it does state “2 discs” on the front cover, it doesn’t talk about the bonus disc on the back. I’m sure he will just be happy with the film anyway.

Okay I didn’t know our last Blu Ray release came with an additional disc of bonus features. So obviously some are on the Blu Ray disc with the movie and some are on a bonus disc - which yes the new 4K is missing. I’d definitely be Frankensteining your set like you said, before you give it away.

Click thru to the UK one and you will see the 4 disc version - as per usual AU gets screwed

Worst that they couldn’t do both cuts on the 4K like the UK
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=25119

Consider the UK one via rarewaves

I really hope that is an error on the back cover, which makes it look like only the Theatrical Cut is on the UHD-100. Why they couldn’t have both cuts, utilising seamless branching, is a mystery. The difference is the removal of one scene: https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=311002

Since Stone himself says he removed the scene since he felt it was superfluous, unnecessary and kills the pacing at the end of the film. Would rather have The Final Cut on UHD.

Fingers crossed it is a typo and both cuts are on the UHD, and they gave us the 2K BD for the extras…

Edit: The Final Cut being mentioned in the BD.com title is misleading.

Surely the UHD will have both cuts just like every other release. The theatrical version seems to have been listed as a bonus feature for some reason, since Stone obviously considers the newer cut to be the definitive version of the film. AID's 4K discs so far have all been direct ports of overseas versions, I can't see them having a whole new ISO authored to only contain the one version.

I'm quite sure it's just an error. AID don't seem to put much effort into getting the back cover specs accurate, which is hardly anything unusual for an Aussie distributor. It's basically a long-running tradition at this stage

According to the site that Shireguy posted up in a previous post, every countries 4K Blu-Ray had both cuts. After looking at the back cover again, it seems the cover designer probably felt he couldn’t fit the “Final Cut” font in, ‘cos of the additional audio specs, so he left it out. In fact, the way it is set out looks like a dog’s breakfast anyway.

Will take a chance and pick it up today, hopefully. My local JB is pretty consistent when it comes to getting the week’s releases out onto the shelves by Monday (if the physical media dude isn’t sick). Will have a pretty good excuse about taking it back for a refund (was expecting the Final Cut on UHD, as per overseas releases). When opened, I may not get a refund, but store credit will be just fine by me.
