I figured she was only eating it (and not spitting it out) to save face in front of Jackie. But when he says he's not eating it that gives her license to show her true revulsion.

![]() And also, not only Jackie is being dick in this scene. But I even dislike Alan more, as he seems to be an even bigger ahole here. So let's analyze it even more ![]() ![]() |

I can enjoy comedy in any film but a lot of the HK movies tend to get too silly IMO.

The new German UHD from Nameless Media uses the same master as the 88 Films BD. See comparisons here: https://slow.pics/c/QITiWuYJ?image-fit=contain |

And the German UHD listing on this site has the wrong audio information.

I've always loved Jackie Chan's movies since I was a kid and only discovered all these JC bluray/4K releases this year, so I've been grabbing them little by little and watching them in order of release and finally got to one of my favorites...this one!
Believe it or not, I read through this thread throughout the week and it was a wealth of information! My first experience with this movie is the US release with Jackie dubbing himself so this is actually the first time I've seen the HK cut. Not to channel the "Chinese butter" convo, but I found the scene at the end where Jackie goes to rescue Alan and Laura and acts like he's going to leave Alan behind confusing. I think Jackie comes off like a dick here compared to the US version. In the US version, they play it off like Jackie was testing Alan to see if he truly loved her, and once Alan was willing to sacrifice himself and stay behind, Jackie gives up the facade of being a dick and continues on. In the HK Cut you kind of get mixed signals. It seems as though Jackie does mean it and genuinely wants to leave Alan behind and rescue only Laura, but admits defeat in the love triangle (which they really didn't do enough work to make it feel like it was STILL a love triangle in the present tense), and rescues Alan as well. I say mixed signals because Jackie is grinning behind their back during it so although it seems genuine that he wants to leave Alan behind, I can't quite get a grasp on whether or not he's just messing with him in the HK cut as well. The ending dialogue in this scene when he says, "He's the hero so I have no choice but to play the villain" makes it feel like he was genuinely thinking of leaving Alan, which is a weird turn IMO. Anyway, this is a great movie and I watched it in full Cantonese the first time and followed it up with the Hybrid version, and I really enjoyed the Hybrid track. I thought that perhaps having someone speak in English and have someone respond in Cantonese would make for an awkward way to watch but it starts feeling natural as you go. It probably helps that the Western actors weren't speaking Cantonese anyway so it's not like the lips matched their dialogue to begin with. :P |

it is they are doing the same thing they did for the blu-ray release of armour of god 2 they released the 2nd one first and the first one second so they are doing the same thing with the 4K UHD release of the 1st one by releasing it 2nd.
