I am looking forward to supporting this in 3D theaters, but I'm really hoping we get a blu ray 3D release as we did the prior 2 3D films. I think it's great the publisher/rights owner decided to support blu ray 3D years after 3DTVs stopped being produced, but probably realizing there is still a good amount of 3D fans and collectors of blu ray 3D still buying 3D movies on blu ray 3D.
Avatar 3 Fire & Ash Blu Ray 3D in 2026, maybe by May or June, is my guess and hope. That would be awesome. |

These things are on a tight cycle now, if the film comes out in December no way will a disc release be a year off. Tom Cruise films tend to take the longest break between theatrical and home release these days, everything else comes out much sooner.

I was referring to the Blu-Ray 3D edition. Of course the other editions - including the streaming AVP 3D - might come a few months after theatrical release but I think that this movie's Blu-Ray 3D might be pushed to December because that way they'll have much more sales on the AVP and then they'll cash more latter with Christmas much like what was done with the first movie's 3D remaster.

Avatar 2 was 3 hours and 19 minutes I think, so they had to break it up into 2 blu ray 3D discs. I did like that they got most of the film onto disc 1, so disc 2 was a shorter disc, allowing for less interruption when watching the first disc in 3D.
I guess Avatar 3 might be 3 hours and 30 minutes. Quote:
Okay, thanks. I forgot when Avatar 2 3D blu ray was released, but remember it wasn't a whole year later. |

I don’t know why it would be worth it to delay the bd3d of Fire and Ash for an entire year.
With the last one they had the staggered release strategy of first taking down the original movie from Disney+ so they could incentivize people to go see it in theaters three months before the sequel’s release. Then, almost six months after Way of Water released in theaters, I want to say its D+ debut (along with the stream of the first Avatar being updated with the newer master) happened within just a couple weeks of the physical media rollout (Way of Water on bd2d, bd3d, and UHD and the first one on UHD) and finally, another six months after that, the collector’s editions of both (longer versions of first movie on 4k) and the remastered bd3d of the first one finally came out. That’s A LOT of different things to put out and it makes sense why they waited an extra six months for some of them. I’d love to know what the numbers looked like for Way of Water’s 3D blu and the first one’s remastered 3D blu. I’m glad they did it (still need to pick up the first one on 3d blu-ray at some point), but it would be interesting to know how many copies they sold vs the 2D versions. Would they delay the bd3d of Fire and Ash just to sell more AVP’s? Depends on what kind of relationship they have with Apple. The HFR version will probably be exclusive to AVP anyway, and either way it can’t be released on disc in any extant format and will probably debut on streaming a couple weeks early just like WoW did before it hit disc. I’d think it would make more sense to give people options and just put the bd3d out there for the ever fewer number of us who are capable of watching it. Makes no sense to wait. |

If that were the case then Disney should have already changed their strategy concerning 3D content. And let's not forget also that James Cameron made a deal with Facebook. This movie might come to the Quest too in 3D.

![]() ![]() Unfortunately, if you're a fan of 3D, the future of movie watching is not on 3D Blu-rays, which is why I invested in an AVP earlier this year. I don't regret it one bit. |

Agreed, but just having to wear glasses was cited as a major reason why 3D TVs faded away, so I can't see these things gaining widespread acceptance.

They may well never do, but anything you can use to watch 3D movies is always a good thing as while it might not take off, it could inspire a superior competitor. I would LOVE a headset to watch 3D movies on so as soon as one comes along that ticks all the right boxes, I'm putting my money down.

I'm guessing that Apple signed contracts for 3D licenses of a lot of Disney and other brand 3D movies to its Apple Vision Pro $3500 AR headset before it even launched, and they're fulfilling that as it continues, even if it's a smaller audience than Apple was hoping for.
I did read AVP sold 200,000 units+ total so far, if true in 2024. About $3500+ tax cost to start with less features. Sony's Mainstream PS4 had an add on PSVR1 that sold over 6 million units in its short lifetime from 2016 to 2021 about. About $300 to 400 average cost. PSVR2 with PS5's main console, only sold under 600,000 so far, and is considered a smaller audience of loyal VR fans since its 2023 launch. About $550 cost. Quest 3 VR, so far sold over a million units possibly (no official numbers) since 2023 but nothing official. About $500 cost roughly. Worldwide, how many blu ray 3D fans are there I wonder? I'm not sure how to find that out for 2025. Maybe 1 million blu ray 3D fans in the world that still support blu ray 3D purchases each year since 2010? I don't know. There are about over 8 billion+ people living worldwide in 2025, draining the earth of resources, but only a smaller percentage of blu ray 3D sales, but still enough to release Avatar 1 3D and 2 3D blu rays and hopefully Avatar 3 blu ray 3D in 2026. On topic, Avatar 3, Fire & Ash, I am surprised the trailer didn't show much fire or ash yet. Probably trailer 2. |
