The Look is great but I didn't like the very slow Pacing. Also I have a Problem with the Characters. I only like Timothy Olyphant. He is cool in everything what he does, but the Rest.
After 2 Episodes I still don't care who lives or dies

Liking this so far. I don't think it's great but it's entertaining and doesn't have the lazy writing or the annoying characters Romulus did.
And to me the xenomorph looks great, can't see the issues some people are having with it.

And eggs are usually depicted as reacting to proximity, yet that egg opened on it's own. And Facehuggers are shown to either grab onto the closest thing that is near the egg when it opens, or it searches for a heat signature like it did in Romulus. Yet in ALIEN3, a facehugger manages to find Ripley and company while they're in cryo stasis.

A lot of problems with the alien franchise seem to just disappear if you eliminate ALIEN3 from the equation.

That seems like inaccurate reporting from that journalist who wrote that article to be honest. It seems more like their own interpretation rather than what Hawley actually said.

All Hawley said was:

"And so I chose not to engage with that part of the story and to just sort of speak to the alien that I had encoded."

Him choosing "not to engage" just sounds like he did not focus on exploring or referencing Prometheus/Covenant.

It does not necessarily mean that they are not still canon or that Alien: Earth is in a separate continuity.

If more information comes out, I would gladly reconsider. But so far, it seems like it could still be part of the same continuity.

I mean, TL;DR of that interview is "I don't care about the lore, I'm doing my own thing, I don't care about anything besides of the original movie". But If you really want to do a mental gymnastic to try to justify the show's place in the larger cannon? Know what, don't let me stop you.

Nothing like that is needed anyways. So far, it does not seem like anything exactly contradicts the films. Prometheus and Covenant can still be canon even if Hawley doesn't acknowledge them as long as nothing blatantly contradicts them.

Depending on how they tie up the show, it could still very much fit with the rest of the films.

100% agree. Funnily enough, I was thinking about this after I posted the other day. It made the first two much more unnerving. If there’s only one alien in Earth, will it automatically become a Queen? As this is produced by Ridley Scott, is he every going to accept and show it himself or fallback to how they reproduce in Alien 1979?

This TV series wouldn't have the power to de-canonize the prequels even if Hawley explicitly attempted to retcon them out of existence (which hasn't been the case so far).

Elements from Prometheus feature rather prominently in Romulus and, one presumes, will feature in its upcoming sequel(s). Mental gymnastics would be needed to randomly give Alien: Earth precedence over the continuing theatrical films.

No one is de-canonizng anything though. Hawley is saying that the show is in its own continuity so he doesn't have to feel restrained by any pre-exisisting material in a way, say, Andor S2 had to dance around Star Wars Rebels.

That doesn't mean A:E will flat out contradict any of the movies, but they are giving themself a creative license to do so if necessary, precisely so they can avoid retconning the established cannon.

So, then why pretend it doesn't exist? You've seen it presumably ONCE in over 30 yrs. Put the bluray on and enjoy the extended edition. It's a smashing film and far better than people give it credit for. Certainly miles ahead of the highly praised Romulus, which was nothing cheap tacky fan fiction.

My assumption when talking about negative Alien 3 comments, they're always so dead serious. There's no joking with Jim Cameron fan boys. It's usually straight to extremes. It's never, "despite the excellent cinematography, superb soundtrack, great acting etc, it just wasn't my cup of tea." It's always something mental like, "My life was ruined because they killed Newt! Worst movie EVAAAAR!!!"

So, when you say something about it not existing. I 100% think it's serious.

Huge Alien universe fan and watched yesterday, and it was ok. Like Romulus, I didn't really care about the characters. Will keep watching and hope it surprises.
