I had a feeling the breakfast club would get upgraded to 4K and resisted buying the Blu-ray because with the anniversary being this year, it felt inevitable. so glad I waited.

I’m In for the November Slate.

I am a bit surprised EWS did not get the digipak treatment. The majority hate ‘em though. Right now, I just hate the artwork.

Right - that’s what I mean, EWS and Breakfast Club already US HD had releases. Everything is new to HD (exception of El, which had other region releases)

Eh, don't know if I need Breakfast Club in 4K. The Blu-ray is pretty solid. Can't wrap my mind around House Party from Criterion. EWS is a day one, the rest I'll have to research first.

Only wish we could have been given THE ICE STORM in 4K UHD in time for Thanksgiving... perhaps 2026

Not having plans to release it for the anniversary themselves does not mean it is "likely with a label", you have a weak case there.

I strongly dig the EWS artwork. It is 100x better than whatever dumb illustration Criterion’s art dept. would’ve cooked up.

Well since you quoted me I might as well as say I think the film is overrated, and probably my least favorite Kubrick film. I have no intention of ever watching it again so this release means nothing to me personally.

I am delighted to see Eyes Wide Shut in the Criterion Collection! The artwork is vivid and terrifying actually, which means it's effective. In many ways this is almost a horror film, at least horror from the perspective of two people in a relationship! It's the kind of horror and eeriness that deserves minimalist cover artwork like that. It's still one of my favorites from Kubrick. And there's tons of great supplements with this one too. A win-win!

As for the other releases, House Party is a welcome addition with Kid'n'Play at the top of their game. Buñuel's film Él is another great addition, featuring cuckoldry and a jealous husband. Hell's Angels, a pre-code Hollywood film from Howard Hughes, stars Jean Harlow in her breakout role. Plus 4K upgrades for The Breakfast Club and Burden of Dreams, as well as a new Eclipse set on blu-ray? Stop the madness!

Super-psyched for Eyes Wide Shut but not seeing enough love for HELL'S ANGELS 4K, its air combat sequences are unbelievable, Hughes was a madman.

I'm in for Hell's Angels. I always love a Classic Hollywood selection. This was Jean Harlow's breakthrough role and was produced and co-directed by Howard Hughes. This movie was originally shot as a silent film in the late 1920s, but the popularity of The Jazz Singer made Hughes decide to reshoot the film with sound. The original leading lady, Greta Nissen, had a thick Norwegian accent. She was replaced with Harlow. It took three years to make Hell's Angels and cost millions (in 1927-1930) to produce. This film is also notable for the aviation stunts and the multiple stuntmen who died trying to perform the stunts during filming. This is definitely not the greatest film, but it is an important film in terms of Classic Hollywood history.

I already have The Breakfast Club blu ray. I don't see how 4K will really improve it. If I didn't already have the blu ray, I'd get the 4K. I don't care about the other films.
