That’s a rather reductive way to look at it, the problem is one that affects the whole industry and it isn’t entirely due to the shift to streaming

These what the situation looks like right now:

Of course lots of factors are in play, but short theatrical exclusivity windows and streaming services are both changing the industry for sure.

I was looking forward to this one, but after seeing it I was very disappointed. I dont think 3D would save it for me.

I enjoyed it in 2D though was disappointed at how much screen time Yelena's incessant complaining got, at least in 3D you'll have something more to look at. At least that's what I am hoping. It is a rather grey film but the street level scenes ought to look good on 3D. As always it sucks that Marvel don't expand the aspect ratio on disc any more.

I totally agree. Studios are both the solution and the cause of this particular problem. They were so desperate for a piece of the Netflix pie that they all created their own very costly services and then realized they needed content people wanted to see to get subscribers. All of this was happening when Covid hit and studios saw a solution to the problem of theaters being closed and a need for subscribers.

Instead of going back to pre-Covid release schedules, they kept them as a way to boost short-term profits over long-term viability and shot themselves in the foot by making it clear to audiences that if they just waited, it would be on a streaming faster. Now theaters thrive on must-see movies only while everything else suffers.

Avengers and Spider-man will of course do well, but the MCU can't survive on those profits while Thunderbolts and FF4 barely make a profit and others out right fail.

Once again, another demonstration that most people still don’t understand the Marvel strategy (why the long game pays off big time) and probably never have.

That kind of mentality (a movie needs to make huge profits or it’s not worth doing) is exactly why WB killed its biggest golden goose.

I don't think you grasp the mindset that MBAs have increasingly brought to corporate management. "Long game" is not part of their lexicon. That sort of thinking is reserved for people of vision, who are no longer in the decision-making loop, and rare as hen's teeth in studio management, as far as I can tell.

Marvel Studios might be on to something as it is enduring for over 13 years now.

This is what makes the MCU different:
  • It has made 37 movies, which collectively have made over $32 BILLION at the box office.
  • Every single MCU movie has opened at #1.
  • It is the only Hollywood movie franchise that has made over $1 billion at the box-office each and every year since 2021.

I am not going to lose any sleep because Disney is making slightly smaller profits now, compared to before the pandemic; this is the highest-grossing film franchise in the history of Hollywood by a huge margin (almost $20 billion) and it isn’t going to die anytime in our lifetime.

Also, just like George Lucas famously made more money off merchandising than from his movies’ box-office take (which had to be split with exhibitors), it’s a fairly safe bet Marvel’s making much more money from merch than it does from its share of the theatrical box-office.

Is it cheaper to do it this way versus having to go through a shipping service like buyee.com?

It's always cheaper having friends or relatives send something to you than buying it via a reshipper that charges you for the service.

That's not what you asked though.

In any case whatever the reshipper's fee is, that's what you save. That will invariably be double figures, using reshippers is not cheap. I think I wasted £30 on each of the last MCU titles because I used WorldShopping.

I know what I asked. Should have phrased it different.

I used buyee.com For Captain America, shipping cost me $10.67. Insurance and buyers fee was another $5.97. I could have saved $3.00 by not using insurance but I didn't think it was worth the risk. Of course this wasn't for the steelbook.

I am using buyee again for Thunderbolts* Was well satisfied with the price and service. BTW, buyee is Tenso Inc.

The one thing I wouldn't want to be bothering friends and family with is a return so it's up to you whether paying the extra is worth it. I don't think it is. Every disc I have ordered from Japan has been perfect, the only issue I ever had apart from customs and handling charges was one of the MCU titles (GOTG3 I think) coming with a big dent in the front of the case. I didn't bother complaining, the discs were fine. I feel like I wasted my money using WorldShopping for this title and the last one.

For sure you wasted money on shipping. But to your credit, by the time you found out you couldn't change it. Really underhanded way of doing business I think.

I don't blame them. There should be an option.

OK. They have all the world to buy their option of 4K+BD pack.

What options do people like us who want to buy blu-ray 3D have?
