I think it will definitely be renewed plus it has really surprised everyone how good it is

Dexter: Original Sin’ Scores Killer Finale Audience, Up 27% Over Premiere

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Dexter: Original Sin ended on a high note over the weekend, measuring a finale audience that grew 27% over the December premiere.

The finale tallied 2.68M global viewers on Paramount+ with Showtime, according to Paramount Global. This includes the three-day streaming audience that tuned in once the episode became available on Friday, as well as any same-day viewers that watched when the episode aired on the linear network Sunday night.

It was the most-streamed episode of the season, Paramount Global says, up 30% from the premiere’s streaming audience.

Paramount Global is touting this as Showtime‘s most-streamed series in 10 years. It’s worth noting that Showtime began to develop its online presence around 2015, and there has been an overall audience shift to streaming in recent years, so that stat is somewhat of a natural conclusion.

However, it does mean that Dexter: Original Sin has beat some of Showtime’s more recent series — like Yellowjackets, The Agency, and The Curse — in terms of its streaming audience.

So far, Dexter: Original Sin has not made an appearance on the Nielsen streaming charts. There’s still time, though, since those reports are a month delayed, meaning data is only available through the week of January 13 to 19, when six episodes were available.

Dexter: Original Sin hails from showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, chronicling Dexter’s origin story. Set in 1991 Miami, the series follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness.

With the guidance of his father, Harry (Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.

The Dexter franchise will continue with Dexter: Resurrection, which will see Michael C. Hall return as the titular serial killer. The cast also includes David Zayas as Detective Angel Batista, James Remar as Dexter’s father Harry Morgan, Jack Alcott as Dexter’s son Harrison Morgan, Uma Thurman as Charley, and Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater.

After noping out of the original series around season 5, I was a little weary of Original Sin. However, this was a great season. Looking forward to more young Dexter and Deb.

New Blood was a very disappointing series especially with that series finale, but Original Sin has got me excited for more Dexter. Sure hope Season 2 is on the way.

The original series and New Blood both had bad endings, but third time's the charm... Hopefully.

Question

More than a decade ago I watched the original Dexter when it first came to Blu-ray and it was so entertaining and easy to watch, absolutely fantastic! I'd have to put Dexter in my top TV shows of all time list, next to The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Star Trek and so on.

I have also seen Dexter New Blood and it was ok, and that is all I have to say about that.

Now I hear Dexter: Original Sin is significanly better than New Blood was and the upcoming Steelbook is pretty sharp looking so I went ahead and pre-ordered it.

My questions is this, I have only seen the original Dexter all the way thru, one time and I am ready to see it again. Should I wait to see Original Sin before I dive back into Dexter for the second time? thanks in advance.

Just my opinion but I think you’ll appreciate Original sin a lot more if the original series is fresh in your mind. There are a ton of call backs and Easter eggs. I had to google some of it because it’s been about four years since I watched the OG.

Just finished watching the series and wow what a great fresh visit to the story, probably one of favorite prequels already. Glad it's renewed now to wait to check how good is Resurrection.

Paramount+ messed up with this release and did not do a native 4K Blu-ray release and only did 2K Blu-ray with lossless audio. Therefore, the 2K Blu-ray version has better sound quality when compared to the streaming version. However, the streaming version has better picture quality in theory since it uses low bit rate native 4K with lossy audio.

This is not good for the Blu-ray format to have this series released only on the 2K Blu-ray format.

If possible, I would definitely watch the OG before OS, just because it lays so much groundwork for the connectivity and concepts carried over into the rest of the Dexter projects. NB is only relevant to the upcoming Resurrection series, but it features a smidge of irrelevant connectivity to OS, in the form of the flashback kill and some of Dexter explaining his killing history to his son.

This had gone under my radar until recently, but watched the first season in double-quick time, because I was really enjoying it.
Definitely felt a bit odd at first, a bit like the recent(ish) Star Trek films, with all these different actors portraying characters we’d gotten to know over the years, but on the whole the casting was really good and they all played the parts to a tee (the younger Batista was uncanny).

Felt very much like old school Dexter (because I guess it was )

Yeah i blindbought the steelbook on amazon and watched it in a few days, it was great. Dude has Micheal C Halls mannerisms down. Other actors were all great as well.

The prequel series won’t go ahead, but a writers room for season two of ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ is set to open soon.
