As it is the lackluster majority makes custom grading a very nice option for those who don't need to be slaves to what's on a disc spoon fed to the masses. I aim to one day have most my collection have a custom HDR sister file.

Movies from Sony and ones like The Mummy won't need one done. That's my 'reference' for HDR experience.
Not sure if I'm mis-reading this or not, but are you guys saying The Mummy looks good? It's one of the worst-looking 4K discs I own. Unless I had the settings on my TV set up incorrectly or something...

Suspiria. The original. It's absolutely stunning. But I don't think anything tops Lawrence of Arabia..

The Terminator

A lot of movies in my collection look fantastic, but The Terminator is the only one where my jaw hit the floor in terms of PQ. Probably because it’s a 40 year old movie and my brain wasn’t expecting it to look as good as it did.

It's just an AI upscale of the Blu-ray, with many noticeable glitches and generated goofery.

It really isn't a revolution over the existing Blu.

You’re both right.

I saw it in the cinema for the re-release and in motion on the big screen it looked pretty great! But also the fact that its an AI upscale means its an abomination, and once you spot the problems you can’t unsee them - like Sarah Connor’s shades melting into her face in one scene for example

Add Kingdom of Heaven to the list. Amazing transfer. Certainly one of the best releases this year.

"If" is stunning. The cinematography makes great use of rich colour and plays with light a lot. This is benefited greatly by the Dolby Vision treatment. Everything is razor sharp and detailed, to boot. Really enjoyed the presentation here. The movie is a lot better than I was led to believe, as well. Not going to hit any top ten lists, I'm sure, but it was enjoyable for the whole family.

Don't forget The Thing. The 4K is incredible.

I put on The Drop a couple nights ago just to check that the disc worked and the beautiful 4K picture drew me in and I ended up watching the whole thing. Beautiful cinematography, rich colours, razor sharp and crisp, some nighttime city shots that will be nice demo material for an OLED TV.

My Fair Lady is one of the best looking classic films on 4K that I've seen. Shot on 70mm, this isn't surprising, but it feels like a lot of care went into the restoration. It is sharp without feeling artificial. Great colour and contrast without feeling overblown. Lots of detail to be seen throughout.

In some early shots the white of a tuxedo has some blooming against the black jacket, but it feels like a source issue rather than a transfer issue. And there is one scene that is a lot softer than the rest, presumably due to optical effects in that shot, where the edges are deliberately out of focus to show that it's a dream sequence, but even the parts of the screen that are supposed to be in focus feel much softer than the rest of the movie.

I've been rewatching a lot of Hitchcock on 4k and would add all of the VistaVision titles to this list but especially North by Northwest, Vertigo, the Trouble with Harry and The man Who Knew too Much.

Stunning.

Terminator 2. Just kidding. I would not say it's the best, but I recently watched Ghoulies (1985) again, and MVD did a excellent job on that one.

When I got my first 4k TV/player setup, Suspiria was the first movie I watched, and like you said, absolutely stunning. Brilliant colors, and it just made the movie scarier and more intense that it already was in the first place.

Maybe I'm "easy", but I'm happy with so many of them. I think my favorite is probably ALIEN. Every time I watch it I'm in awe of every frame.

Honorable mention; not perfect but friggin' beautiful overall:
2001: A Space Odyssey
8 1/2
Almost Famous (theatrical cut)
Apocalypse Now
Battlestar Galactica '78
Casablanca
Casino
Citizen Kane
Days of Heaven
Double Indemnity
I Am Cuba
The Last Picture Show
No Country For Old Men
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Schindler's List
Seven Samurai
Taxi Driver
The Thing (visually)
