Missed my two chances to see Friendship in the cinema this past weekend (was at a music festival), so will no doubt end up importing the A24 disc at some point - along with Eddington, Warfare and A Different Man (and possibly Bring Her Back, unless the UK disc is cheap). Might go for The Legend of Ochi too, as I’m going to miss seeing that next week due to work (only matinee showings, annoyingly).
Kinda odd these films are often getting missed on UK Blu-Ray altogether though. You’d think it’d become less frequent, not more frequent? I wonder if a boutique label could just straight up approach A24 and start putting some of them out here somehow, or maybe A24 could just distribute here directly (have said before my theory is they only did Stop Making Sense as it was financially viable to as it tapped into the music collector market). |

I mean I get Warfare as that was handled by A24 and they’re putting it out Region Free themselves. Painful and expensive like, but I can see no incentive for them to print in internationally when people can order just off their site.
Majorly frustrated about A Different Man, and likely Friendship and Eddington getting the same snubbing. Even though they weren’t big hits (Eddington is getting barely any showtimes), there is a key market to releasing them on home entertainment where they’re likely to hit people who want to own it. But I suppose this is why I’m not in the business. Ochi should be coming from EFD though, they’ve been fairly good on the physical front. I’d love a boutique label to grab Beau is Afraid if there’s anyone looking into it. |

Is there really a market for these type of films on BD in the U.K. though.
Looking at edition sizes it seems you need to sell around 2,000 copies to break even and that tends on be on higher priced collectors titles and steelbooks which will have bigger profit margins. On a £15 BD margins must be slim and many will wait for sales to £10 or less. I personally won’t pay £15 for a vanilla BD these days when you can get collectors editions of films with much more content for not much more. Don’t even consider these type of titles until they’re £10 or less but at those prices no incentive for the studios to release low selling titles. |

Saw Eddington last night and there was a big whopping Universal logo at the start so not sure if that gives it more chance of a physical release over here like The Brutalist. It's certainly got the star power behind it to warrant a release over those other recent A24 titles.

Let’s be honest here, if small studios are still managing to distribute their films on disc after all this time, there really isn’t a reason major distributors can’t find a reason to release well reviewed and more prominently covered indie films they’ve picked up. |
