Hmmm. Wasn't this guy an action star once?

20th Century Fox has released the poster for the Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson family comedy Tooth Fairy, which can be viewed after the jump. Believe it or not, this is sadly not an over-the-top parody of the really bad family films that Hollwood likes to crap out, but in fact, an actual movie.

Dwayne Johnson is “The Tooth Fairy,” also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. When Derek discourages a youngster’s hopes, he’s sentenced to one week’s hard labor as a real tooth fairy, complete with the requisite tutu, wings and magic wand. At first, Derek “can’t handle the tooth” – bumbling and stumbling as he tries to furtively wing his way through strangers’ homes…doing what tooth fairies do. Can you smell what The Rock is cookin'?

I can, and it stinks.

I really liked The Game Plan, but this is one actor whose agent needs to get him into an R-rated action flick pronto, or he's gonna end up playing a fat Santa or transvestite Vegas dancer.

There was a good article on him somewhere talking about his image makeover. It covered how his action roles never really took off (mostly because he kept being put in horrible or just so-so movies) so he got the Disney makeover. He dropped weight(size) and started focusing on family films and lighter stuff. He even took 3rd billing to be in Get Smart. Looks like we have to wait until "Faster" for him to get back to the action, and from the early info on that, it will probably suck too.

I liked The Game Plan a lot too.

He should do a serious role at the very least. Wouldn't have to be action, just not a family movie.

It was no coincidence that Arnold had a small cameo at the beginning of The Rundown (good action flick btw). To those that didn't see the movie (shame on you), as the Rock enters a club at the beginning of the movie Arnie is leaving and as they pass by each other The Governator tells the Rock "good luck". At that moment the torch was supposed to have been passed to the Rock to be the next big action star. It's really unfortunate that the roles haven't panned out for the Rock to be able to do a great action flick since The Rundown. But one can always hope for the future I guess.

Yeah that was his best action movie to date. Good action, good humor, good crazy bad guy played by Christopher Walken.
