Took my mother to the rerelease today. This is one of our favorite flicks. We saw the non-3D one which was fine. We were the only two in the theater which was also fine. Some things that stood out.

Image: Looks to be more or less the same 4K version as the disc. The screening we saw had a bit of a yellow push to it which did make some night scenes, particularly the ones on the Orca, looks a bit green. The rotoscoping looked a little less prominent but was still there in some instances. Overall not too bad.

Audio: No it was not the theatrical mono mix nor was I expecting it to be. Instead we got a somewhat retooled version of the Atmos mix. Some things I noticed.

1. The main title music is louder and upfront more like the mono. It doesn’t start low and build up. The music was definitely the highlight of this showing.
2. The extra splashes after Chrissie is pulled under the final time heard in the mono were restored.
3. Probably the biggest the change made throughout the film. Several outdoor scenes add reverb to dialogue. Tom and Chrissie’s exchanges, Brody yelling at Michael to get out of his boat, painter yelling about the shark, Quint’s dialogue while Brody and Ellen say their goodbyes, etc.
4. The shark revealing itself while Brody chums was tweaked. Sounds like a mixture of the previous remixed sound and some new effects.
5. New sounds when the shark tips the boat sideways.
6. I noticed some rumble during Quinta death scene. Couldn’t tell if it was effects or music but it was odd.
7. Brody’s “bigger boat” and “smile you don’t of a..” lines are louder and upfront and less drowned out by music. Similar to the mono.

There’s probably more but those are what stuck out to me. Overall a decent showing.

That’s a good guess , but it was another shop just up the street. Not 100% certain, I think it may have been called Mrs. Mitchell’s on Main. They had tons of JAWS related shirts and merch (as do most places on Cape Cod), it was a struggle to restrain myself to just the lunchbox!

The store also had these mannequins of Hooper and Brody in the window display (apologies for the poor photo quality):

I saw Jaws in 3D at the theater today. It’s a lot better than I remember. I never hated Jaws, just kinda didn’t get why it was so beloved. Really glad I got to see it again and in 3D! Still don’t think it’s an amazing movie, but it is a very good one, for sure one of the best movies from the 70’s.

I saw this in IMAX a few hours ago, what a fun way to rewatch a classic. Quite a good turnout, too.

Okay this one I wrong about. I checked the Atmos and it was there too. Guess I never really noticed it til now. Everything else I listed more or less checks out though.

Arguably the finest 3D conversion ever done. It's so clearly done with love and respect to Steve's vision

Just saw it in IMAX tonight. For the most part it looked great but the biggest difference was in the sound. I caught a lot of dialogue I'd never heard before, the sound effects and music were more prominent, and the theater Atmos was superb. To top it off the lady sitting next to dumped half her popcorn onto my lap when she jumped a foot straight up during the Ben Gardner scene. Funny thing was she'd seen the movie before! Great evening.

My daughter asked me to take her to a 3D movie and Jaws was the only one on locally so we headed down there last night to watch it and wow...the 3D is amazing...it was also my first time experiancing 3D and we both bloody loved it

saw it on 4DX over the weekend

Yeah it's a gimmick but it worked really well

standout moment was Quint on top of the mast on the Orca looking down

Really good depth with the 3D, the chairs were rocking gently like you would expect on a boat, you had the wind blowing around and some water mist to top off the effect.

Jaws is my all-time favorite movie, but I likely won't see it during this run. I've seen it multiple times in the last several years and nothing, and I mean nothing, will top seeing a vintage 35mm print with original audio, a couple of years ago. Felt like I was transported to 1975.

Sounds like the water effects were pretty mild? I was working in a cinema when Aquaman came out and the amount of water used was insane. We were having to mop the auditorium after each screening.

the smoke was mild. literally half a puff during Ben Gardner's boat scene. was expecting more

plenty of water though. whenever something was splashing around. huge blast of it when Bruce popped out the water

Jaws in 3D was like most 3D movies in my experience. After the first couple of "oh it's 3D" moments, I gradually stopped seeing the effect and it made no difference to me during the last hour. Best parts were when the camera was at the water's surface. You did get a sense that whatever was beneath the waves were at touching distance.

IMAX looked great to me. I'd be interested know exactly what "optimized for IMAX" means. I'd love to see more old movies this way (original Tron, please).

My main takeaway from the bazillionth and bazillion and oneth viewing of Jaws, this time, is how great Lee Fierro's performance is in both her scenes as Mrs Kintner. Utterly convincing. "I just wanted you to know that."

My 3-disc CD set arrived Saturday and I listened to the score album and soundtrack album on Sunday.

Both sound STUNNING, like they were recorded yesterday. A miracle they found the original source for the album.

Gonna listen to the bonus disc today.

The non-3D IMAX showing was a good time. My only complaint was the window darkening rotoscoping was much more visible at that size... Regardless, this movie is perfect.

Saw it last night at "Super EMAX". Nearly a 100 foot wide scope screen. Glorious. Perfect movie indeed.
