In other words, Eric Idle's 'do the same thing again but cheaper' Rutles sequel which got the drubbing it deserved. As far as fictional bands go, the Spinal Tap sequel will have the edge on that one.

![]() There used to be a comedy show by Reiner apparently called "The TV Show", but I can't find anything on it as far as footage or clips. |

Not gonna lie - it's bad when the people making a mockumentary film, has to partake in a interview and explain what they're doing.

EDIT: New interview:
Spinal Tap 2 this Friday. I think it has potential but probably has to be seen as a whole to get the full scope of the humor, rather than just a brief trailer. What is interesting is they're not showing them really on stage in the shoe-horned in show, where they replace a canceled show from someone else. I'd like to see this band on stage as old guys, trying to play and sing like they did from the 1980s movie and band concert movie. The Set Up to this movie is very much like Guest's A Mighty Wind comedy. ![]() Last edited by Zivouhr; 09-09-2025 at 03:01 AM. |

I saw the movie in IMAX along with the live Q&A Wednesday night. This movie is freakin' hilarious! I don't laugh out loud too often at the movies but I was with this film all throughout, as well as the audience! To me, this is just as funny as the original, brilliantly written and acted as well!
Before the movie they showed some ads for Spinal Tap merchandise and a couple of promos with celebrities talking about the original movie. Also they showed the "cheese rolling" trailer for the original movie. One trailer for Bone Lake (a Bleecker Street film) and something unexpected, a Downton Abbey spoof trailer that was absolutely hilarious! I wonder if Rob Reiner, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer had anything to do with that. It's fitting since Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale was playing in the Dolby Cinema theatre next door. The Live Q&A was great as well! They were all in character along with Marty DiBergi fielding the questions that the movie audience sent by scanning a QR code before the Q&A started. The question I sent was asking if Spinal Tap (and Marty Dibergi) would ever consider doing conventions as I would love to meet them and have them sign my Spinal Tap soundtrack album with the all black cover with black ink! Lol After the Q&A event they showed a title screen for the event along with the statement "Thank You For Coming" with several Spinal Tap songs playing. I stayed until they shut the feed off listening to some great Tap music which sounded fantastic in the IMAX theatre! I had a blast tonight and I'm so glad I had the chance to see it at my local theatre! I can't wait to see it again! Let's boogie! |

82 minute run time. The same as the first movie. Movie credits at the end are often longer than they used to be, so I'm guessing 72ish minutes of film time? With the prices of tickets now, I don't know if it's worth the bother to be honest. I love Spinal tap, have the albums, etc... But I might just wait till it hits Blu-Ray.

A good movie is always long enough. Even if it's under 90 mins. For comedies the margins are much narrower too. Comedies that are too long, even by ten minutes, really outstay their welcome.

That's not really what I'm saying. I'm trying to say it's not personally worth it to me, to drive to the theater (local one closed in January of this year) So I have to drive twice as far, then sit through all the ads/trailers. To watch a movie that is that short, when I could just wait and buy the Blu and watch it at home.
