The UB820 is not high-end.

I've had several of these Panny decks and they all sounded like they're about to take off when put directly onto my TV stand with glass shelves, including the 820.

The same. I've heard like a subtle grinding like noise...mine on glass shelf just behind my couch.

Like so many things in this hobby, different environments give different results. With people elsewhere lamenting quiet voices and loud action in movies, implying a high sound floor in their room, it doesn't surprise that some think the Pannys are "silent."

Nor silent (there's a fan in the back and I live in a cool coastal climate). It's part of the reason I went for a UB9000, which also isn't silent (it's quieter, though discs also come out much warmer).

I have a question: I tried to play Night Of The Living Dead that is, if I'm not mistaken, encoded in SDR. But my player (UB820) displays the signal as HDR content (I didn't choose the option to ma SDR to HDR from evry content). What's wrong?

Go to your setup home menu and turn DV to off. When done, turn it back on.

I've never cleaned a laser lense since top loading systems. But I will try this if my Panny ever gets that unruly.

I have to clean the laser on my BR burner in my PC regularly to avoid toasters. I haven't had to do it on any of my 4k players yet but I'm sure it will be needed at some stage.

Has anyone had the following problem or knows what could be the issue
My 800 will now play any Blu-ray without issues but when I put in a 4K disc it will say the disc cannot be read. I’ll have to eject and reinsert the disc several times to get it to play if even. Other times it will play a 4K disc only to start pixelating and freezing up. This problem is with 4K discs only and the player will only be 2 years old in November. This problem only started recently over the last few months.

This is exactly the problem I had. Cleaning the laser lens completely resolved it.

I have a Sony X800M2. It’s good except for audio sync issues with Dolby Vision discs. Does anyone have that problem with a Panasonic 820 or 9000? I’m also considering a Magnetar 800. Yes, different price completely. I have just a few 4K discs and do a lot of streaming.

My TV is a Bravia 7. The remote can control some disc player functions maybe through CEC? Will I lose that if I go to a non Sony?

None yet, but I'm also a noob with my player.

Been sort of playing around with "picture type" (Normal/ Cinema/ Fine Cinema/ Retro Cinema/ Animation/Live) for none UHD discs. Ultimately, I just keep going back to "normal" because I'm just a cautious cat, still keep flipping around out of curiosity.

AI claims:
[Show spoiler]Here is a breakdown of the available "Picture Type" settings:
Normal: This is the standard, all-purpose setting. It provides a neutral, natural-looking image that is suitable for most content.
Cinema: This mode is designed to replicate the color and tone of a commercial movie theater. It typically adjusts the color temperature and contrast for a warmer, more film-like appearance.
Fine Cinema: A more refined version of the "Cinema" mode. This setting is intended for serious movie enthusiasts, offering an even more accurate and subtle film-like presentation.
Retro Cinema: This mode applies a stylistic, retro look to the image. It is meant to evoke the feeling of classic films and is not intended for accurate or realistic reproduction.
Animation: Tailored for animated films and shows, this mode enhances the colors and contrast to make them more vibrant and vivid.
Live: This setting is best for live events, such as concerts or sports. It is tuned to produce a brighter, sharper, and more dynamic image to match the "live" feel of the original content.

Out of curiosity, what's everyone else view on these? I keep going back to "normal," but "fine cinema" sounds like the best approach outside of "normal."

How's this player HDR -> SDR conversion?
I have an old P50GT60 which I like very much and planning to keep until it dies.
