Is that quality in regards to the DVD, Blu-ray or both?

DVD played on my 4K player via 1080p projector. So not the best judge, but it did still look crappy. The Blu-ray apparently looks marginally better, but is long-OOP.

I overheard two women talking in one of my local charity
shops, it basically consisted of one of them being pleased that she look all of the DVDs (which also included a number of Blus) to somewhere like CEX or Music Magpie and got a fairly nominal amount for them all, rather than have them in the shop cluttering up the place.

I think many charity shops are going to do this when they decide that they don't want physical media in their shops.

Obviously we're not at the height of the DVD era, but it almost feels like some folks have been conditioned to think physical media is worthless. We've heard some shops just binning their DVDs.

I do wonder about some of their stock and what they consider clutter, but it's all about their customers want.

Many staff members in my local charity shops do not know the difference between a DVD and a Blu-ray and think that it’s just a shiny disc with a film on it so they all get lumped together and priced the same. I’ve seen CD’s mixed in with the DVD and Blu-ray shelves.

I hear ‘clutter that doesn’t sell well taking up valuable shelf space’ a lot.

Case in point; I just rescued this lot a neighbor of mine had dumped straight into the bin. Obviously nothing valuable here, but there was nothing stopping them from at least donating it to any of the six charity shops 10mins from us that all still have media shelves;

That's quite upsetting.

I know what you mean by not valuable (in the monetary sense), but some of that stuff can change folks lives, Twin Peaks, or the Alien set, could make them a cineaphile for life.

Physical Media, movies, music, books... it's sad to think some people think it's better in a landfill.

My usual charity shops are cutting all physical media right down every time I go in, it seems. Books and DVD/Blu sections seem to be shrinking. What gets my goat a bit though is that all now seem to organise the films into racks with the cover of the top one facing out instead of all spines facing out - so it's a pain in the arse trying to see at a glance what they have. You have to dig out all the ones at the front to see the ones at the back. I then leave without bothering if I'm just out on a break as I don't really have time to do that...

Thats a real shame as there are several decent films there. To just throw that lot away in the bin is sheer laziness imo. Why didn’t your neighbour ask you if you wanted them or knew someone who did?

Not everyone has a Blu-ray player and I still see folk buying DVDs in Charity shops and someone may have benefited from those titles and giving the shops some much needed cash.

I’m going to my local chazzas this morning and I have a few DVDs that I have upgraded to donate along with some clothes and bric-à-brac and no way would I even think of just dumping decent stuff in a bin.

By the way, if you don’t mind me asking, what were you doing rooting around in someone else’s bin and are they aware you have these DVDs?

most of the charity shops near me have signs on the door saying they no longer accept DVDs as donations, and shelf space for any physical media have shrunk to almost nothing. lots of "comedy" mugs on display though!
think it's time for everyone who runs a free neighbourhood book library to add a DVD section.

I should've clarified; it's a neighbor I don't personally know who I live in a small shared complex of studios with that all use the same communal waste bins. So I found the lot as I was chucking my own trash out (amongst several bags of clothes and other working misc., I should add). I got the impression they were making a moving clearout by the sheer volume of stuff that was hastily binned.

Ah, I see. I didn’t think you were creeping around your neighbourhood rooting through the bins lol 😁

Years ago I lived in a block of flats that had those large communal bins which were for general waste and recycling stuff and once in a while they would be overflowing with furniture and belongings due to seizure of property and eviction. I still have a few books rescued from one of them. Never found any physical media though.

£1.50 each today, not bad!

Nearly bought both of these over the years, obviously glad I didn't now!

If there's one film that sorely needs a 4K or at least some kind of upgrade it's Hero!
