The Halloween films will keep getting re-released until the end of time.

The Imprint release should be definitive. Unless it doesn’t include a better original mono track (and I imagine it doesn’t) and then someone else releases it with the mono restored. That’s the only possible thing that could be improved upon after Imprint’s release. (Which I will buy when they release the films separately.)

As long as they provide both colour grades of the first movie.

I'm sorry, but that 35th Anniversary grade is so depressingly grey and dull. It really sucks the fun out of the daytime stuff.

You’re referring to the one Lionsgate used for their 4K… that’s not being included on Imprint’s release, thank god.

Shout had both on their 4K, so I'm assuming Imprint will follow suit.

That’s from the 2007 Blu-ray (which I happen to love), not the 35th Anniversary one from 2013. The 35th Anniversary color grade is the really drab one, which was used by Lionsgate for their 4K in 2018. It wasn’t included by Shout on their 4K release (even as a bonus disc) that I’m aware of.

Man this is still going on.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...5&l=1&i=2&go=1

I kinda prefer the Lion release in caps like this. Saturation sliders are a thing folks. If you need 4 notches more, then your TV can really do that for you I promise. But this will come down to grain preference too. IDK slashers like this to me have always tended toward dark and dingy.

I don't get the absolute hate and insanity over these very small things. You could do this transfer 1 million different ways with the smallest of tweaks.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...5&l=1&i=2&go=1

Pretty obvious one is redder, and one is greener. I kind of like the some of the desaturated vibe here. I understand if people want the stereo track and what not. Neither of these looks bad to me.

But do people find something wrong with the Shout release too? What do people want out of this film lol?

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...9&l=1&i=6&go=1

I feel like one just has a higher saturation slider, and there are a few minute differences in contrast and gamma. Not much though. I guess I just don't care enough to care. Halloween is a bit lower on my horror lists probably.

It actually feels one is oversaturated at times and one is undersaturated. Different colorists and all that jazz.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...&l=1&i=16&go=1

I must say in shots like this I think the Lion wins. I just like the image of it more without the blue hint. But neither is really bad just different. There's almost too much of a contrast boost in some of the lighting on the Shout IMO, but it's all very low-key anyway.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...&l=1&i=14&go=1

What is going on in shots like this with the grain? The Shout seems filtered or something.

It isn’t, really. I was just trying to clear up a misconception about what transfers are going to be included by Imprint. The Shout transfer/color grade is perfectly fine—it was the encoding that was lacking. (That, and the artwork… and the weak mono track…)

No offense to Imprint but I don't think anything they ever release will be considered "definitive." It's not like they are going to have these movies exclusively. It will be the new hotness until the next new release as always. Then it will be awful like the Shout versions and what a sucker you were for buying these!

The extended cut used the 35th transfer.

I guess I'll just watch my copy and be happy with it. Cuz something be wrong with the grain on that Shout copy for damn sure. That simply does not look right to me.

So were people just suckered into buying that and now they double down on it or what?

Yo man, so there is this new crazy thing they have on TVs, it's called a saturation slider.

I know right what will they think of next!?

Also, how the hell is that grain on the Shout winning this poll by a landslide? It looks filtered or just not even there half the time.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=3&x...&l=1&i=14&go=1

Like what the hell is this garbage lol? THIS is the winner of the poll? ROFL.

You can use a saturation slider on the Lion release, and it looks a shitload better than whatever the hell happened to that thing.

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=3&x...5&l=1&i=2&go=1

That looks like DNR or some kind of filtering? What is this?

https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=3&x...5&l=1&i=2&go=1

Here the grain is tighter, but they both look completely different again.

The Shout looks really unnatural too. Looks like bad encode, filtering, and/or sharpening. Lord.

You guys should share the doll and have tea. Be friends. Be friendly. Life is good or so my LG tells me when it shuts off.

The Shout actually has a gorgeous underlying master. It's just that they mangled it when they encoded it for UHD.
