Don't know, but probably not since DV2 also includes IA. Though, I wouldn't get too excited. It sounds like DV2 just adds IA and an ambient function. And the ambient function is something most TVs already have and most people just turn off because it just never really works or it becomes annoying with its adjustments.

I have no idea what this Panasonic 820’s issue is? I got one of those Blu-ray/DVD lens cleaners, used it and nothing. The player continues to play any Blu-ray without issue, it will play any previously played 4K BUT anything new it will say CANNOT READ THE DISC. So I’m basically stuck with a player that can’t be used for new movies. WTF?!

This doesn't make much sense: what new discs in particular is it not playing? Will it consistently play some 4K discs but not others?

I'd try a full power down (unplug and then hold down the power button to purge the last few volts). Give it a few minutes and then plug back in.

If that doesn't do anything, try a factory reset: there might be some sort of error stuck in the system.

Turn the unit off.
Press and hold the [ OK ], [ Y ] and [ B ] buttons on the remote at the same time for more than 5 seconds. “ 00 RET ” is displayed on the unit’s display.
Press the arrow right ► button repeatedly on the remote control until “ 08 FIN ” is displayed on the unit’s display.
Press and hold the [ OK ] button on the remote control for more than 5 seconds.

IF THAT doesn't work, take the unit apart (unplugged of course!), take the top off the drive unit itself, and try gently cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud and some isopropyl alcohol.

IF THAT doesn't work, the drive is probably dead dead deadski and you can either swap it out for a new one or replace the 820.

I know it doesn’t make sense.i just finished watching The Wolf of Wall Street 4K on it and not a single glitch but when i put in a more recent purchase (e.g. Better Off Dead) it says it can’t read the disc. I’ve noticed this with all of my more recent purchases (Ace Ventura, Small Soldiers, St Elmo’s Fire, Earthquake, Jade, Golden Child etc..) if it does finally play it will pixelate throughout the movie.

Sorry to ask such a generic question:

I need two 4k players (one for my front room and one for my bedroom), and I'm sticking with the Panasonic brand since I've had nothing but bad luck with Sony. So, I'm wondering if there's any kind of sale coming up that I should wait for to make the purchases? Black Friday, sure. But does anyone know if there's any kind of special sale that happen between September and then?

Recent Vin Syn releases like the Golden Child and Jade have reported playback issues (pixelation) on the 820. I'm not up on it as I've avoided them because of that but worth knowing.

I really hope not. There are still issues with some Dolby Vision discs causing flickering on shot cuts or not displaying properly (i.e., Arrow's Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2).

I totally agree with you and I hope too that ultimately there would be another update. That would really make my day to say the least.

Tried the restart and the problem still exists. It’s the weirdest thing, only happening with certain discs. It will NOT play Better Off Dead at all, insisting that the disc cannot be read. I have watched the entire movie on my Oppo and then tried it again on my Panasonic 420 in the bedroom and it played there too. I tried to play Thor 4 on the 820, it gave the can’t read message once then played the movie. Texas Chainsaw Massacre from Arrow loaded up without issue. The problem seems to be centered on certain discs the player has problems with.

I'd try a lens clean. My 820 straight up refused to play certain 4K discs, and would play others no problem.

Starship Troopers for example, and Dunkirk. Absolutely no way, tried loading them multiple times in a row, play another disc that works in between, then back. Nada, no dice. Refused to load.

Cleaned the lens, everything's fine now.
