It was far from "breaking even". You're saying the budget was $510M? Come on, be serious.

Disparaging comments from people who really like the movie? And by some (myself included) who actually wished it did better? Not everyone who mentions its box office take negatively is trying to clown this movie. But whatever....I guess none of that matters. I don't think anyone doubted it was going to break $500 million. That's quite a milestone! Almost as much as Justice League in 2017! A movie that was met with a universal shrug from the whole world. Fantastic Four should have clobbered that movie's box office (I just realized the pun that I made). But it hasn't. And most likely won't. I'll probably get called a hater again. Even though I really liked the movie and my saying the box office feels somewhat low considering what it is is BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT DESERVED MORE. But who cares? Just being a hater. For thinking $500 million is beneath it because it's a really good movie. I've never said anything but good stuff about it. But guess what. The usual suspects still flip their lids.

Disney obsessives are the weirdest of weirdos. It's not enough that we/I actually like the films. Well...the Marvel films anyway. And think they deserved to make more. No...you have to share in exactly what they think or you're the enemy..

Except no F4 film had even hit $400M before and Justice League was expected to do Avengers numbers based on its budget and scale......

Before sites like Box Office Mojo, what did people talk about with movies?

Those other FF movies also cost a lot less and were a part of a lot less. This is not 2005 or 2007 either. When $400/500 million would have meant much more. I'll give you that Justice League's budget was probably a factor. I know it cost a lot. But it made almost $700 million. This was one of THE MCU movies that seems it had been hyped for quite a few years. And everyone was clamoring for the Fantastic Four in the MCU for what felt like forever. And then the movie ended up really good too. $500 million may be acceptable. But I'm sorry...I agree with the people who think that feels low.

You see what I mean lol? No amount of positivity is enough unless you agree 100% on everything. Then you're one of the bad guys trying to ruin someone's fun or something..

You see what I mean lol? Bottom line is...I think Fantastic Four's box office is low in relation to tbe quality of the movie. Maybe they're happy with $500 million. Good for them. I just feel like it was good enough that it deserved considerably more than that..
JL made $660M on a $350M budget, that is not at all profitable let alone breaking even. It was not a success by any means more of a bomb. For example Avengers films have made $2B on similar budgets. The first one made $1.5B back in 2012 and was the #3 highest grossing film of all time then.

It sounds like we're agreeing. I wasn't saying Justice League was a hit. Or profitable. Though I didn't know the exact numbers.

Maybe I shouldn't have used Justice League as an example. How about Ant-Man and the Wasp. That DEFINITELY shouldn't have been a bigger hit than the FANTASTIC FOUR'S MCU DEBUT. I mean.. it's Ant-Man. An Ant-Man SEQUEL no less. FF for sure deserved to make more than that pretty forgettable (but still good enough) movie..

Nothing will ever be the same after 2020. Even with ticket prices averaging close to 12 dollars. They will be chasing ticket sales 2002 1,575,921,670 and never get there.

They will be chasing 2018 box office and will never catch it.
2018 $11,948,302,425

Every year there will get 2-3 breakout movies. Yet the ticket sales will remain low. Why does it matter what the movie makes, or what the profit points are? Theaters will not survive with the lack of butts in seats.

Right. So why are people so focused on them?

(we know the answer, it's a rhetorical question)

Sadly, that is the belief of many Hollywood execs, and their accountants. They want the most return for the least effort, as quickly as possible...and nothing's off-limits in terms of morality.

Nice - at least it's pretty close to screen accurate. You can bet they'll probably only sell it in very limited sizes, though.

It's not just film geeks who feel this way; lots of folks around the world have an unhealthy "my way or nothing" mentality. And then, we have the nerve to act surprised when everything goes to hell. This is why inflated egos cause nothing but trouble, and Hollywood is rife with both.
