Yuzo Koshiro and his (or his sister's) development company Ancient has been teasing Earthion for a while now, finally announced that it will be available in 2025 for Switch, PS4/PS5, Steam, and Xbox Series X|S. They are partnered with LRG so there will probably be a physical copy for some of the listed platforms, maybe even a Genesis-compatible cart.

Been following this for a while. He's not so active on Bluesky but Yuzo would usually respond to comments on Twitter. Seems a nice enough guy.

It has been confirmed that LRG's Japanese affiliate SuperDeluxe is releasing it physically in Japan. Pretty sure there hasn't been a single SuperDeluxe release that didn't get a LRG release. That said, I'll likely just get the SuperDeluxe release as they almost always offer superior editions.

SuperDeluxe order page is up, along with an 8BitDo M30 Bluetooth Gamepad
- Earthion Edition (Switch/Switch 2 compatible). Physical release date is October 30th, digital is still July 31st. The MD compatible cart has been delayed until next year according to @AncientGames_JP on X.

Oh, thank god SuperDeluxe announced their version same time as LRG. I always prefer SuperDeluxe releases, but too often order a LRG game long before SuperDeluxe announces. The collector's edition from LRG is $100 + tax and shipping, with a lot of crap I'd never want. Absolutely picking up the SuperDeluxe version of Earthion. Want to pickup that controller as well, but may just get that from LRG as it's probably a bit less due to shipping from Japan.

A hacked ROM of Earthion is being circulated online. Some people may think it’s official, but it’s not.
The official version is available only on Steam for now.
The MD/Gen version will launch next year as a cartridge only. No downloadable ROM is planned.

happy for you man, but as a longtime fan: i can't support works made with generative AI

it's built on stealing from artists like yourself, it's wrecking havoc on the earth, and it's being pushed/subsidized by a lot of the same folks supporting fascism here in the US

Thank you for your concern.

Just to clarify: while we did use Synthesizer V in the prototype stage for placeholder voices, all of those lines were replaced by real human voice actors in the final release of Earthion.

Synthesizer V uses AI vocal synthesis, but it’s not generative AI like ChatGPT or Midjourney. It creates voice from written input using licensed voice models, with full consent from the voice providers.

So to be absolutely clear: no generative AI was used in Earthion’s final version, and we fully respect the work of human artists and voice talent.

Surely the op read YK's response and immediately purchased the Steam version, right? No way he was just making a flimsy excuse to justify that behavior...

Fortunately, it looks like Earthion will be landing that mid-September date, as the eShop page says the game is coming out on 18th September 2025. That's just over two weeks away!
