Wasn't this a Mouse Movie, initially? Hollywood Pictures released it in the U.S.

I'm not interested in this title but if this means that Disney is willing to open it's vaults...

Roadshow released it theatrically in Australia. Largo was one of the studios also behind the production and it could be through the same rights holders as Point Break.

I think you mean these guys; if you look at the disc label mockup from the announcement you'll see their logo on there. looks like they hold the rights to point break and quite a few other largo titles as well

It's distributed digitally in Australia by Disney as a Hollywood Pictures title

https://tv.apple.com/au/movie/gi-jan...01%3A350126216

It was also available on Disney+ until it was removed recently.

Cool

Folks are making the assumption that Disney still doesnt have US rights. There's no evidence of that. In fact they still sell the digital stream and their old Blu-Ray is still in print even now. Plus Hollywood Pictures co-owns the copyright on the film which is key. Certainly looks like Disney is always going to control the film where it has always held distribution.

This movie was a co-production between a bunch of different entities with Largo having overseas rights (even the wikipedia page mentions it). I dont think this is a rights switch more than it is Largo held/has the international rights, hence this release in a territory where they have always held them. I dont know the history of whoever had it in Australia on video but this isnt another POINT BREAK situation where theres going to be a US release. Disney co-owns the movie and seemingly will always distribute it here.

Either way I'm up for this one...and it might mean WHITE SQUALL could happen down under on UHD also since the ownership of that film was similarly set up with Disney holding North America and Largo international. As a Ridley Scott fan that would be awesome to see

The only 2 Ridley Scott movies I really want right now are Black Rain and the directors cut of Napoleon. But I did enjoy G.I. Jane. Then I'll be a happy camper.Fingers crossed.

Wow, this is big news for me. One of my favourite Ridley Scott films, and one that's been stuck with a pretty dated Blu-ray transfer for too long. A fresh scan from the OCN in 4K should look fantastic.

I've never checked out an Imprint release before, are they good? Will there be a standard case-only release after this sells out?

Not only is it Disney, but Disney pulled out of the Aussie market I'm a little dumbfounded - and very happy at the same time. I happen to really like this film.
