It's a goofy thing that is more noticeable on such a large screen and it niggles as to why they chose to meddle with such an amazing scene. Still minor, but visible... ![]() |

It’s probably the one scene in the 4K remaster I have the hardest time watching. It’s THAT distracting. I watched the 4K disc with my mother on the 50th anniversary and even she was able to notice the blue leaking into Quint’s hair.

The scene right after the kids with the cardboard fin where Brody says “What now?” and his wife tells him “Michael’s in the pond” - was it always possible to hear a tannoy in the background announcing “it’s ok folks, it was only a prank…” etc.?
I definitely felt I was hearing things I never heard before with this release but I could also be going senile so factor that in before you pass judgement. |

When the guy is being attacked in the pond, you can better distinguish the screams of Mike's friends from the victim's. There has always been a rumbling, rushing sound effect at various points of the movie, when the shark was attacking. I think I heard it less in the night-time attack than usual. And at other times it was louder, like right before and after Quint gets it. Last edited by Martoto; 09-02-2025 at 12:15 PM. |

One thing I’ve learned in owning multiple versions of movies especially in recent times is lossy and lossless compression in some instances can be meaningless. I could probably give you a short list of lossless tracks that IMO sound poorly mastered compared to some lossy versions. The 2005 DVD of Jaws had a mono track that despite its compression rate of 192kbps still sounds far less filtered than the 447kbps mono on the 4K. Even the lossless mono of the Jaws LD has some filtering done to it in my ears. I recently made an MKV version of Jaws ripped from the BD (I don’t have the means to rip 4K discs at the moment) where I’ve included four audio tracks: the BD 7.1 remix (not my favorite track but included it anyways), the BD mono, the LD mono (obtained over at FanRes), the 2005 DVD mono (personally sync’d by me). Listening to the LD it’s just not grabbing me the way I hoped it would. I’d even say some of the BD mono track sounds better despite the filtering. The 2005 mono is still the sweet spot IMO. Frankenstein has a lossless mono on both BD and 4K and that film has sounded flat and dull since 2004. The Terminator 4K includes a lossless mono track and several have complained it sounds too filtered. I like it for what it is but maybe that’s born out of the relief of finally having a new release of the film with the mono at all. Which brings me back to JAWS. Yes the included mono isn’t perfect. Yes I’d prefer a less filtered track more akin to the 2005 DVD, lossy or lossless withstanding. That being said, I am still happy the option is there at all especially with Universal’s poor track record with OG tracks. You’d think with the hassle people made with this film when it was remixed the first time they’d take more note of these things. Sad really. I remember those few short years of having to get by with that 25th anniversary DVD and I won’t lie it was a struggle at times. I’m definitely glad we’re not still stuck with that situation now with this film. The track isn’t perfect but it’s enough to replicate the movie I grew up with. I will also say this. Had we gotten a NEW new release of this instead of basically a repackaging I would totally be fine if the same mono was included in lieu of finally remastering the deleted scenes. The frame rate of them on the 4K makes them practically unwatchable now. It’s time to retire those old LD era versions of those scenes. Too bad. |

I couldn't make it to the 3-D showings a few years ago
![]() This time, I would not be denied!! Caught a 3-D show Monday afternoon, LOVED the conversion! I need this on disc!! I also wanted to see it in IMAX (or LIEMax, in my case). And, I wanted to see it again in 3-D! I had not originally intended to do this, but what with scheduling conflicts and the fact that local theaters are dropping the 3-D and IMAX show times next week, I went to a 1:00 pm LIEMax show yesterday, and then a 7:00 pm 3-D show at a different theater. I know, I know, I'm seriously getting into BluBonnet territory here ![]() ![]() ![]() Sadly, the theaters were mostly empty all three times. Guess everybody went over the weekend. Loved the IMAX, loved the 3-D, but I think I'm JAWS-ed out for awhile. |

Yeah I went on Tuesday to see it in IMAX and honestly loved it. I've never seen the film on SUCH a big screen. It was sort of mesmerizing, ngl.
Also everyone jumped out of their seat at Ben Gardner's head. 50 years later and the movie's still got it. ![]() |
