I would have probably given up on the MonsterVerse after the boring Godzilla: King of the Monsters but I just so happened to have bought Godzilla vs Kong too so I watched that and it was better - like the 3rd one was an awkward transition between the relatively grounded first two movies and the ludicrousness that follows. Anyway I’m not sure I’ll hold on to this - it was fun enough, but I basically only bought it because I saw a clip of Dan Stevens giving Kong dental surgery the same day Rarewaves had a sale. It had some fun moments, but I just didn’t care that much. Millions die in this, but its not even acknowledged. Some of the action was fun and Kong especially remains a god damn marvel of modern technology, you really feel for him, but probably not a rewatch. 3/5

[Show spoiler]Didn’t love Drunken Master. Liked, but didn’t love. Funnily I had a hazy memory of seeing an English dub on Netflix about 10 years ago and found it so unengaging that watching so shortly after Skiptrace made me basically give up on Jackie Chan. Turns out that was the sequel I’d seen in cut, dubbed form. I think my tastes have changed now, so I picked it up from Amazon DE. 3.5/5

Cold Pursuit was a fun time. I need to rewatch the original In Order of Disappearance (nice nod to that in the credits). Did find it darkly funny that one of the deleted scenes was basically the only one that justified getting some one as good as Laura Dern for the wife, and they cut it! 4/5

Tenet arrived from Germany on the 5th anniversary of its release, so I had to watch it (first rewatch). Its amazing. Yeah you can pick holes in it but you can do that to any movie. I really like it. Nolan’s second-best plane stunt (The Dark Knight Rises still better for me). All the backwards action was so cool. 4.5/5

Holiday is gonna stick with me. Its not what the poster suggests, (and that poster/cover art on Limelight’s website is actually the only reason I know of the Anti-Worlds label) its much less eventful and darker.

[Show spoiler]I don’t watch much ‘nasty’ stuff but I’ve seen a few modern movies that have been praised for their depictions of sexual assault etc. this was by far the most disturbing rape scene I’ve seen so far. Barely looks simulated! Everything around it is compelling though even as not much happens for most of the runtime

. I think this one’s gonna stick with me. 4/5

Watched: Neither Allyson nor Lemmon were a patch on Gable/Colbert but did they live up to the high standards of 50s Technicolor musicals? No they were damp rags. A pointless musical with lame songs. At first I was disappointed the film was left off the 4k disc that comes with the Capra set. I thought there'd only be the one 4k disc but Sony cut this alternative for their Columbia Classics set for whatever reason. But now I've watched most of You Can't Run Away from It I'll never want to watch it again.

Baywatch - "Shelter Me"
Lois & Clark - "Neverending Battle"
MacGyver - "The Golden Triangle"

Had a blast watching these. I plan on watching them all, in order, at some point, but for now just picked a random selection of episodes for this binge. 90s TV was so much fun!

PQ-wise they're all fine. Baywatch is probably the pick of the bunch, and given the nature of the show I didn't really see any instances where special effects were upscaled. Lois & Clark, on the other hand, has plenty of SD scenes where there are either FX or composite effects - I'm sure I also saw some scenes with no FX that for some reason were also SD. A shame as the HD scenes look extremely nice.

SeaQuest is from the German "complete" set - easy to get the setup to English, but the default settings are for German (audio and subs), and the disc menus/episode titles are in German. Other than that, perfectly watchable.

MacGyver was from the standalone first season set released here. At some point I'm going to have to import in the "complete" set.

Episodes 1-3.

Decided to watch this ahead of a full series rewatch. Really enjoyed it. I think they nailed the casting, with numerous characters from the series making an appearance as their younger selves. Supplemented by Patrick Dempsey, Michelle Gellar and Christian Slater (as Harry, Dexter's adoptive father). And you get Michael C Hall narrating the whole thing. The tone is spot on, the visual aesthetics are exactly the same as the regular series. It's a great forerunner, which explains the early days of Dexter coming to terms with his "dark passenger" and his process and the code being embedded. It's a shame that this one has been cancelled, but it doesn't end on a cliffhanger and should serve as a soft re-introduction to the main series. Great stuff!

The warmer tone of the MoC reflected some of the moral decay in the subject matter better than the starker Criterion IMO. But their 4k might not retain it.

Criterion - Region 'A' - Blu-ray (October 2013): There are very minute differences between the Criterion's new 1080P transfer and the Masters of Cinema from the last month. Technically they are almost exactly the same but looking under the microscope the MoC, occasionally, looks a shade green which, I should add, I have no idea whether it is authentic to the original. I don't doubt Criterion has deftly used their magic and created more pure-appearing black + white visuals. I would say that for the vast majority it would be imperceptible. Those who project may be more sensitive to the green. Personally, I consider it a non-issue.

Interesting! I’m not a ‘pixel peeper’ so I doubt I could tell the difference, but be curious to see if he finds the same green in the 4K
