I don't think this interview with Robert Wise has been posted before.
He tells the truth about The Magnificent Ambersons in his customary matter-of-fact way. In Search of Lost Ambersons by Mike Thomas That having been said, I still think Welles' version should have been preserved by RKO. Audiences would react differently after a few years than they did in 1942. |

I think the whole idea is stupid, but using dead people's likenesses without their permission is just ghoulish. (And no, I don't think their heirs can give permission on their behalf. Morally speaking.)

This whole thing is just an advertisement for the company. They even state they don’t have the rights to it, so they can’t publicly exhibit it. It’s an elaborate proof of concept and advertisement for the company.

Watched the interview with that CEO, he says this but also that "training our AI on Orson Welles and his masterpieces will mean we can do live action" so no, its not just POC, its a way for them to train/steal cinematic techniques
