Why would they give Amazon more than Wal-Mart? Not like Wallyworld is small.

Think it’s just as some have said, you can’t search using the logical titles, so the bots couldn’t quickly queue in on them. That allowed real people like us to share the links and get to the inventory first.

At this point with pre-orders not closed, I do fear some of the more recent orders will not be fulfilled.

Also, a ton of you all made multiple orders all over the place that you don’t need. After this mess, I understand, but that behavior has not helped. When you go to cancel, that’ll burn retailers, particularly those of you who’ll cancel orders from small businesses in favor of the behemoths like Amazon which is just wrong. That’s also feeding into your own induced anxiety. I’m sticking with the smaller shops even if it costs a little more on principle alone.

Said it before that it's no conspiracy but it smacks of rank incompetence. Disnee have long operated a model of artificial scarcity, true, but combined with their ever-growing dislike of physical media - leading to them giving up disc distribution in the first place - it doesn't put us in a great spot. And instead of Sony pushing to undo those habits, to finally exploit Disnee's catalogue on 4K, they've brought their own worst traits to it eg costly steelbooks with no regular release, and don't seem have bovvered securing nearly enough replication capacity, as if Disnee's stuff is hardly worth their time.

Maybe the Trons' popularity was grossly underestimated but even so, the new movie was always going to be the logical tie-in and would generate new interest in the legacy features so why wouldn't that capacity have been booked way ahead of time? Unless Disnee wanted them released laterer but then decided to push them up to pre-empt the new movie, leaving them scrambling for whatever pockets of availability they could find? As even by their standards the NA rollout of these two has been uniquely abysmal.

Completely borked release, no arg. Formulaic scarcity with built-in FOMO, agreed. Incompetent calculations, also yes. My only point was that this wasn't some insidious evil trying to manufacture it all... It's far dumber and more simple, and rank incompetence fits for sure, as you said.

None of that changes the frustration we all feel with this one, especially on this side of the pond.

Great points. Remember that Sony has its own streaming service as well, Sony Pictures Core. It’s only on Sony TVs like mine, but it does offer a much higher bitrate than regular streaming (est 30-50Mbps), but still not that of 4K BR discs which tend to go from 60-90Mbps of bitrate. Core looks fine and sounds decent, but the catalog is just Sony and I’m not sure it’ll last, so I’d never buy anything there. With my sort of new Bravia 9 I got a lot of credits for free films, but after they’re used, that’s it for me.

Disney+ isn’t making much money although it has a strong catalog of hits with Star Wars and Marvel and now HULU, yet the Apple TV app is broken and won’t do 4K HDR at all, yet the company won’t fix it and seem to not understand why we don’t trust them or the streaming.

I know they don’t want to press discs and play to the masses of sheeple instead, but it all just reakes since we all know these companies are all run by snakes. That’s why I still want my discs.

Canadians now seem to be able to order, since I did. Will they cancel later, that's another story.

Walmart and FYE. Hell, my Target still carries new releases.

And if they don't, I can easily go to Amazon and buy it. It's amazing how that works.

Not a conspiracy, but Disney's not stupid, any supply chain issue most likely is from the steelbook that could be prevented from an easier to make standard version, but they like that it gives the appearance of it being more limited to try and boost sales.

Elevation should just start a US branch and handle distribution for Sony and Disney like they do in the UK, they seem to be better at it.

They'll more than likely update that sometime next week.

I don’t understand some of the comments here.

Isn’t it a GOOD thing that this hasn’t sold out yet? Isn’t it a GOOD thing that this is more readily available now?

I get the worry that they are overselling and there will be a ton of canceled orders, but that’s a concern even when they sell out after 5 minutes.

This isn’t technically a limited edition. It SHOULD be easy to order and get at least for the first few weeks leading up to and after release. I’m very glad it’s still available and hopefully that means there will be a lot of supply. This should also make returns easier if you get a damaged copy compared the releases that immediately sell out and are no longer available.

Ordered Tron thru Walmart.
Ordered Legacy thru DD.
Ordered Legacy thru Amazon after some reports of canceled orders during the pillage and plunder phase 1 of the preorder madness.
I will more than likely be cancelling my Amazon order barring anything crazy from DD.
Just some random thots on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.☕️

It doesn't make sense and for those that were only able to get an Amazon order, it's concerning as none of those orders have delivery dates. And while logic dictates that it should be readily available even if it takes a couple months for stock, we blu-ray denizens aren't known for our patience.

Plus with steelbooks, its hard to know if they will be restocked at all or a standard release will go wide.

I'll just try to import a standard release.

I get that retailers have issues, including but not limited to Amazon, which is a pretty terrible company in a lot of ways. But this has been my experience with other steelbooks of theirs, such as Sinners, which I got with free shipping just two days after release despite it never updating the release date for me. And since this Tron release is so hurried, I’m not surprised that the Amazon algorithm hasn’t updated it yet (Amazon is pretty bad about this in my experience).

Still, unless your worry is making sure you get this ON the release date without even a single day’s delay, I see it as a good thing that orders are still open. That makes it more likely to get it than if they immediately shut down 5 minutes after it opened. I’m very optimistic about getting this and I’ve only ordered through Amazon. I’d be surprised if this was canceled on me. And I *have* had that happen before.

Thinking my cancellation priority will be based on price, and MU was the $33 deal (B&N was the worst price at like $45/each). Thinking I'll wait till next Tuesday to make sure I don't get any cancellation emails, then probably cancel DD and B&N.
