Yes, I believe 'Louie, Louie' was by the Kingsmen. However, a better version was remade by Black Flag.

Also, thanks for further clarifying the answer for Erman.

It's great so far cB, but I've only had time to play a few CDs . I'll have more time this weekend when I can crank the volume and give it more of a critical listen.

Just for that, I think I'm gonna keep playing it reaaaaaalllly low.

Heh, actually, I did get it to a relatively decent volume this morning and was a/b'ing it with FLAC sources streamed and output as PCM via HDMI with my PS3. The PS3 has been my source for music for a while now since my old CD player has been on the outs. Anyway, I was never completely satisfied with what I was getting out of the PS3 and is why I decided to try the ERC. There's indeed a noticeable difference, particularly with soundstage depth and detail. I'm happy so far.

Default New Emotiva Cables in the House!!!

*NOTE* Not sure where to post this "initial impression review" so I'm going to post it in both my personal HT thread as well as the Emotiva thread.

My new cables arrived and sure look purty.

In comparing them to my Blue Jeans Cables RCA's, they seem similar in thickness and flexibility. I feel that the Emotiva ends have a snugger fit when connected to my amp and receiver.

Over all build quality is a tie.

On to sound quality...

This result really surprised me. My test material was all SACD's in stereo mode. I used John Legend: Get Lifted, Pink Floyd: DSOTM, and Hiromi: Brain. What I was hearing was so drastic, I had to swap cables five (5) times to make sure it was correct. I even put one speaker as BJC and the other as Emotiva and heard the difference. It seemed off balanced.

In the end, I need to give the win to Emotiva. It really opened up the mid-range and added much more detail to the entire experience. The biggest difference was with Pink Floyd's 'Time.' The mid's were muddy and almost sounded clipped, where as the same song with the Emotiva's were tight and detailed. Even the bings, bongs, and gongs of the clocks seemed to be sharper, more accurate. Granted, they both sounded excellent and and if I had never tried te two sets of cables, I would never have thought anything to be off (if you can call it that).

Well, the BJC's are going to get sent back. I don't think I need to do any additional testing as I'm satisfied with my results.

Finally, and maybe it was a cabling issue, my other speaker issue where my right seemed louder than the left is gone. Maybe it was a bad cable connected to my left channel.

Oh, one last thing. Here's a little unboxing porn.

Cables in the nice new boxes:

Cables and color rings all spread out.

I was in the same boat with using the PS3 with my ALAC files. I was also having issues with my DTS multi-channel WAV files. What I found was that te PS3 transcodes everything to 48kHz from its native 44.1kHz. I've read a few places that this slight modification can result in loss of depth and soundstage. I don't know how accurate that is, but I feel that I get better sounding music from my Apple TV.

If it wasn't for me just buying Dirt 2, I'm not sure if my PS3 would ever get used anymore.

Very cool, thanks for the valued input on this. I haven't placed my order yet, but I will do so much sooner than planned so that I can maximize the 30 days I have with the ERC. BTW, good choice on Pink Floyd's "Time". That one's always one of my top choices for testing AQ.

I was aware of the transcoding to 48kHz, although in my case PS3 Media Server is doing that and I don't think the PS3 is supporting FLAC yet (my FLAC sources are 44.1kHz stereo). However, I wasn't aware this had any impact to soundstage. I was otherwise wondering what PS3 Media Server might be doing to affect the overall AQ, and I bet this is it. Anyway, I'll go read up more on it especially where PS3 Media Server is concerned, and thanks for the info on that because again as I mentioned the difference in soundstage depth was immediately noticeable once I was able to crank it a bit on the ERC. I do also wonder, though, if there's a way to disable the 48kHz transcode in PMS so that I get the native 44.1kHz since it's sent to the PS3 as PCM? More reading to do...
