Default A question for the bitrate minded

Hey guys, i just got the Replacement Killers and loved it PQ, AQ very good, but my question is.....there's a trailer for Paprika on the disc - Mpeg 2 with the bitrate averaging 22-29. Is this HD? The PQ wasn't very good and i know nothing about bitrates but the trailer on there (Vacancy) was between 5-12 and was definitely SD. What do you think?

Yes the file is in HD, but you're right that trailer didn't look like the usual HD stuff but that's not a function of the codec or the bitrate, it's that the trailer's image transfered is not very good. I'm sure the movie itself will look better.

Uh? The Vacancy trailer is 5-12 Mb/s and it was in 480 x 720? I don't think so.

It's 1080p, fluctuating between 15-25 Mb/s

(Replacement Killers is 1080p AVC hitting high 20's in the couple of sections I looked at a few minuttes ago, in case anyone is wondering)

REALLY?!?! I thought Vacancy was definitely SD!!!!!!! I hope Paprika does look better.

I saw replacement killers max out (could be more) out 34. can you show the right place to find out about bitrates? Thanks.

It's funny, I just watched this last night (as a rental) as well. I was shocked that it had a Dolby 5.1 Hungarian language track. Being Hungarian that was a bit of a surprise to see here in the US, given that there are so many other more prevalent languages are in this country.

To tell you the truth I don't even remember any of the previews before the movie, and I already took the movie back to Blockbuster.

A lot of trailers are sourced from bad SD, so that wouldn't really surprise me. The Paprika BD had a trailer for Tokyo Godfathers that looked downright awful. It was upscaled too, which wasn't helping - that's probably what the issue with the trailer for Paprika itself is on the RK disc.

OMG I just saw that trailer. It does look like upconverted sd or something.
The French averages about 10 Mbps higher than that trailer (25 to 29 Mbps with peaks of 35 or so.) and doesn't have the graininess or artifacting. I looks great. What are they thinking using that trailer?!?!

I've seen the movie a few times before, once when it was released in the theaters in 98' and once when I rented it on DVD about 7 years ago, so I thought it was pretty good then. Looking at it now I think it's a bit on the cheesy side, but still enjoyable.
The picture quality on Blu-ray is pretty amazing though, and the sound is not too shabby either. All in all, I'd recommend it to any action fan, especially fans of Chow-Yun Fat.
