I'd sell the Digital Copy to anyone for $5. Except of course Utah since that's a state I don't sell anything to.

Digital copies are mostly a marketing scam to entice younger buyers into picking up the Blu-ray.

There's programs that you can buy or download that can convert DVDs to the iPod format. I do that with the DVDs I own.

I just got my 1st iPod that plays movies (3rd gen touch) and am going to start downloading my digital copies. When you do it through iTunes isn't it like you purchased the movie and so then can redownload it to the same itunes account if it ever gets erased?

No, some movies are not available on Apple's iTunes Store Servers. In many cases, the source file is only on the disc that it comes with. Some codes can be used more than once but a large majority are one time use.

So to quote myself from this thread:

My recommendation is to have an external drive dedicated to important data such as the iTunes main library, photos, and important documents.

Here is what I did:

My 160gb external drive is named HD2.

I have my iTunes Media Folder set up as /HD2/MUSIC/ITUNES/ITUNES MUSIC.

Put me down for another one who hates DC's. It's a waste.

I have sold some of my digital copies off on ebay before, I'm not sure why people would be buying them, but that's their problem not mine. It looks like these 1 year expiration dates means that about every 6 months I am going to have to list another batch. Probably in December or so listing Wolverine, Star Trek, Harry Potter, Up, Monsters Inc, Ice Age and probably Terminator or Transformers if they have them too.

Also since the disney ones seem to use the same code for digital copies and for the movie rewards program, is it possible to redeem the two things separately. Could I redeem the points on my rewards account and sell the digital code still? Has anybody tried this? Or does the address for the iTunes account need to match the rewards account?

The problem with that is modern copyright law makes this illegal by statute in the United States and most of the developed world because the program has to circumvent the DVD's DRM. Sony, in particular, has been a strong advocate for these policies and has even tried to implement something similar on CDs.

In an iPod age, that puts us in a bind. We had legally purchased movies and want to watch them on the go, so we all got programs like Handbrake, ripped our DVDs like we do CDs, and took them with us. Outside the movie studios, hardly anyone sees anything immoral, unethical, or wrong about that, but copyright law disagrees. To paraphrase the gun control opponents, if putting movies on iPods is made criminal, only criminals will have movies on their iPods.

The digital copy is simply a way for Sony, Disney, etc. to admit that DVD purchasers should be legitimately allowed to watch movies on computers, iPods, and whatever else comes along without having to commit a crime to get it there.

Additionally, I wish retailers did a better job of selling the BD+DC as a way for most consumers to future-proof until Blu-ray players drop to more practical prices.

Personally, I don't ever use them and although I understand that they have an expiration date, which If I really wanted it I would use the moment I had purchased the disc and got it home (can't see why some of the posters here just don't do that) !!

What this does highlight to me is the reliance on systems you have no control of to deliver a service or product to a consumer. I'm talking here about digital downloads. I've always been worried by not physically owning the product I buy. Recent example, last year I bought some music from iTunes (not released oon CD unfortunately). Subsequently (long story) I lost the copy I had and cannot re-download a copy from iTunes !!
