Why do they list the run times of movies only in minutes? Why not hour, minutes? Sometimes when I pull out a movie and wanna know if I have enough time to watch all of it and see 186 minutes I just think WTF? It's as stupid as telling your friend "cya in 168 hours hours" instead of "cya in a week"

To some degree I find it annoying, mostly for longer movies.
For anything that is about 2 hours or under, it's not too big of a deal. I know offhand without even having to think about it that an hour is 60 minutes, an hour and a half is 90 minutes, and 2 hours is 120 minutes. So when something falls within those ranges, it's not too difficult for me to quickly figure out what the hours, minutes are. But then for longer running times for longer movies, which I'm not as used to seeing the hours represented in minutes, I do have to stop and caculate it out in my head a bit. It can be annoying in those instances. I do agree that it would be easier if they just made it more "glance friendly". |

I'm not annoyed by it, but I always have to keep in mind that the runtime includes the closing credits (in all cases, AFAIK), which always pads several minutes to the end of the actual movie. (At least for most contemporary movies--sometimes they go on forever.)

i do find it annoying. sometimes if i am short on time or close to bedtime i will pull out a movie and see 140 on it. Since its late at night and i am usually a bit tired i sometime think ok i can see this movie before bedtime as its 1:40 long. So used to seeing time in hours:minutes that my mind when tired or distracted sometimes puts the ":" in there. Next thing i know its past midnight and i am like WTF and realize its 140 minutes and i estimated wrong. By that time its too late, i watch the rest of the morning and then barely pull myself out of bed in the morning for work.

Every once in a while I've gotten mixed up by not paying much attention. I would happen on the ones that are less then 160 minutes. You casually glance at it and it says 145 minutes, if you're not paying attention you might not realize that's 2 hrs 25 mins. I must admit that's happened to my before.

What annoys me more than anything else is the use of the word "Approx" when they list the runtime on Blu-ray (and DVD, ftm) keepcases. Look, studios, this ain't exactly "Rocket Science" we're talking here.
If a movie on Blu-ray/DVD is 120 minutes long, then what's "approximate" about the time listing? Last edited by Blu-Moon; 09-28-2009 at 05:03 PM. |
