They won't give you the same quality. Component is analog (starts to fade as soon as it hits the cable--not to mention you lose some signal in the digital to analog conversion). Yeah that's the theory. In practice however I've connected some devices with analog and some with digital and saw no difference. I wouldn't place much stock in HDMI looking visibly superior to component right now. It's really a crapshoot. The real weakness of the xbox solution is lack of hirez audio.
