Okay, Onkyo "600" series owners -- 605, 606, perhaps the new 607? -- sign in and tell us what you're running...and what you think of your receiver!

My 605 has been going strong since I purchased it right after the release of the model; have a Panasonic DMP-BD10A player hooked up to its HDMI IN 1 jack, and another HDMI cable going from the 605's OUT to my Sony display's HDMI IN...

Working on getting some pics taken; anyone have any pics of their 600 series to share?

I used to have the 605, and for the price, I thought it was a very good performer and it never gave me a problem. It does run a little hot, but it worked flawlessly while I had it and would not have a problem recommending one to a friend.

Have never owned an Onkyo product so I can't comment on them. They sure are a popular AVR though, and I often see them paired with Polk speakers. Is there a reason for that?

I moved my 605 to the bedroom. Only doing a 3.1 speaker set up. It's still doing it's job nicely. It sure gets hot to the touch though. I leave the cabinet door open when in use.

Another 605 owner here...

Overall it's been a great reciever. It really sounds good and offers tons of features... and was less than $400 when I bought it new.

My one complaint is that the older version of Audessy that it uses is pretty outdated. It has never worked that well for me, even though my room is pretty simple.

I have the black TX SR 605. I really love it overall. I have it setup with Paradigm monitor 7, Klipsch Quintett III, and Velodyne VA-1012..So 7.1.

I just ordered the Johan Sebastian Bach Blu-Ray, though I'm a real novice with classical. I have a the 42inch Hitachi HDT79 and the PS3, and that's my entire setup. I really love this receiver; it's awesome for gaming and great for movies. The only drawback is that on Blu-Rays it tends to be very quiet in the center channel sometimes, but that might be because I don't have the greatest center channel. I setup audyssey and I live in an apartment. The only way to getting around the quiet dialogue is to turn up the decibel level to 4-5 range(+4). If you have one you might know what I'm talking about, my volume is anywhere from 50-55 in movies because I don't want to piss off the neighbors; and there will be a great action sequence followed by mouse-quiet dialogue.

Does anyone know how to match the TV dialogue up better in terms of lip-synching? I seem to have problems when trying to matrix stereo to surround on SD broadcasts.

I can't remember, but isn't there some kind of "Delay" setting that you can apply that could possibly help lync up the voices.

Yeah, I think that mine was default setting 40 seconds, and I put it down to 10 or 20, but I haven't really looked, (about a week ago).

I could only dream of the days when I'll be THX certified, maybe then I'll have a really sweet 3-D capable TV, that does look like a really nice system, and some are even on sale for $730.

The tests they do to get THX certified are not cheap and are usually passed on to the consumer, so it does cost a good bit to have yourself a THX certified AVR.

My SC-05 is THX Select2 certified. It is nice. The tough part is getting the rest of my other equipment THX Select2 or THX Ultra2 certified.

Another TX-SR605 owner here. So far I have no complaints and it's been a solid performer. I am, however, saving up for a bigger and better replacement. I'm not sure yet what I'll do with the 605. I might try to sell it, or I might move it to the bedroom and put together a simple 2.1 or 3.1 system in there.

I'm a TX-SR606 owner here and have had it since last october and its had been good to me. It's been through and upgraded speaker set twice and still preforms good. Although recently it has been hard to get the PS3 through the HDMI port (i've read about them going bad on the onkyo) but if I turn it off then back on it comes right up. Just like the poster above I will probably start saving for a higher model maybe pioneer since I have always like there design and performance but who knows when that will be.

Hang around and inquire with other members who are looking to get a new AVR, and you might get their old AVR (which I'm sure would still be in good condition, for a good price and it could very well be a big improvement over the 606, like an Onkyo 805, 806 or possibly another brand.) You never know jruc!

Thats a good idea Fors I could see me going for the 805 or 806 but the only thing I hate about the Onkyo 606 is it gets a little to hot for my liking so I have to keep my entertainment stand door open and my almost 2 year old loves to run right into it all the time, how does your pioneer run does it get very hot?

BTW fors thanks for the help the other day in the SPL forum, I will say my setup sounds the best it has ever sounded after I got them all tuned in. I have my reference volume at 55 but 40-45 sounds awesome as well. I put my center and sub @ 80dB's and the rest @ 75dB's and it sounds awesome.

Awesome!! You are welcome jruc. That is the purpose of the SPL meter, that at no matter what vlume you play your blu's at, it is still balanced and sounds just as good as at higher volumes. As far as another receiver, I was going to mention another, but this is an Onkyo thread, so I didn't feel it quite right to start throwin' other AVR brands out there in this thread......I think you know what I mean....

The only problem I have had with my 606 was the Audessy went out. I sent it back to Onkyo, they fixed it, its be great since then. Does run hot. Don't think its "big" enough to really do all the 7.2 speakers I have, but it does an okay job. Really no complainants. Check out my gallery.

Since so many people here have the 605 I have a (stupid) question for you. Most receivers out there show the volume display as a negative number that counts up to '0'. My 605 is the opposite starting at '0' and counting up to '99'. Is there any way to change the display so it's like every other receiver out there?

I've had my 606 for just over a year now. I have no complaints, but it does give off some heat. This doesn't worry me, but between my receiver and my 50" Samsung plasma my apartment can get a little stuffy after 6 hours of football.

I researched this a little while ago and it seems the reciever will only display a 0-85 value not the dBs values that you see on other people's recievers, but if you get into the higher onkyo's like the 806's they display in dB's values maybe even the 706 but i'm not sure. It seems stupid that you cannot change it.
