Default PHansson Home theater V.2 has officially started.

I have started a remodel picture gallery if anyone would like to keep track. While I have been happy with my theater it was a little "busy" and the colors were not good for the size of screen that I now have.

My goals are

1. Darker color for the room.
2. Update the trim to match the rest of the house.
3. Get the speakers behind my AT screen.
4. Get the components off of the floor.
5. Make it more of a home theater instead of a multi purpose room.

This is where I am at.

1. Removed everything (total pain).
2. Removed old trim.
3. Removed old cabinets.
4. Installed new trim and base board.
5. Installed new doors.
6. Built risers in the front for the equipment and speakers.
7. Ceiling is painted.
8. Trim is in process.

Link to the gallery.

Looking forward to the remodel... You had a very nice set up to begin with, I'm interested in what you do with it

Thanks for the comments. this has turned out to be a big project. Originally I had planned on painting the trim and that was it.

I am excited, but nervous about getting the colors right. We decided yesterday that we are going to "texture" the walls (not ceiling) so that will be the first hurdle.

Leaning towards black ceiling and red walls or chocolate brown ceiling and a tan with a dark brown glaze.

I seem to remember I recommended a color change back on March 16 in your gallery! So... your welcome!

I will be checking in anxiously waiting to see how it turns out! By the way, how did you talk your wife into this? I remember you said the wife had everything to do with the current cream/white color scheme.

Since it was your idea, can I send you the bill????

The current color was chosen by my wife before we got married, so when I took over the room it was all ready that color. I didn't have to convince her much, I just started tearing stuff out and then she got involved, quickly.

It is still going to be a compromise, but I do have here permission for the darkest colors we can go with for the majority of the room.

I am pretty excited.

Consulting fees are more appropriate.

Isn't it great when they finally come around. I know the darker colors are going to emphasis your posters and Star Wars memorabilia! Congrats!

That's a fireplace behind your screen right? Where do you plan to hide the center channel speaker? You can put the front left and front right speakers behind the screen easily enough. Just curious if you'd thought up a plan yet, for that

Impressive.....

Actually, I have measured the speaker and it will fit into the fireplace cutout if I would like to go that route. It might be a little low, but it would be better than where it was originally.

2nd option would be just have it on the fireplace hearth.

The brick is going to be painted to match the walls (whatever color they turn out to be).

Texture was applied to all the side walls. The front stage will be covered in Black Velvet. Ceiling was left as is and will be painted.

Wow....I knew you were talking about re-painting everything with the new screen but didn't realize you were at this point of progress already. Good job so far.

Hey Sean,

It should be a pretty quick process from now. Of course I wasted about a week and a half finding a painter. I had quotes of $2800-$4700 to paint/texture the room. So that slowed down the process a little bit. I am getting things done everyday.

The painter has a job to finish up but should be painting the ceiling black (I talked my wife into it!) on tuesday.

Looks really nice! Can't wait to see the phases of completion. Please try to post pics as each step is completed. I love looking at other people projects like this. Makes me wish I took more pictures of some of my remodels.

Thanks Lou,

I will try to post pics as it progresses. Hopefully I will not drive you crazy.

I have all ways enjoyed seeing pics of a work in progress. You can see the work and time that is put in.

Painting will start next wednesday. The painter said that the ceiling will be where he starts, then walls and finish with the trim. The ceiling and beams will be satin black. The walls are going to be a satin gold/tan color. The trim and doors are going to be "crackle" finished. Black base with the wall color crackled over it. This is a 5 or 6 step process and should be pretty interesting.

Satin Black! Awesome! Visualizing how it's going to look is half the fun. Congratulations.

Thanks, talking the wife into this turned out to be easier than I thought.

The visualizing thing can also be pretty scary. Hopefully it will turn out ok. The interior designer changed the trim to a black "crackle" over the wall color. So the trim will be a darker now.
