Default Blu-Ray Box Sets...I LOVE EM! There I said it!

I read this forum on a daily basis, it's a great place for info and a great time killer at work, but I hardly ever post anything. Well, I have finally came across a few subjects lately that are driving me nuts!

One of them, and the subject of this rant...Blu-Ray box sets.

Now Ive read and read about everyone *****ing and *****ing about box sets for what seems like forever and now, I'm gonna speak my mind on them...

I LOVE EM! I prefer them over the single disc Blu-Rays that get released. There I said it. I don't know why everyone gets so up in arms aabout box sets on this forum. I think they are great.

When I heard the Wizard of Oz was being released in a special box set with tons of extras and tons of gimmicks I didn't even hesitate once before I pre-ordered it. Now they did release other options for Wizard of Oz and I could have gotten those, but I didn't, I got the UCE. Why? Why not?

Thats what I dont understand, there were other options, you didnt have to buy the UCE so why did you complain and say "Why do studios release these?" Ill tell ya why, because there is a market for them! I am a prime example...If I went into Best Buy and saw a single disc of a movie, but knew there was a bigger box set available, I wouldnt think twice about getting the box set. Did I say "Man, I cant believe they released this movie in a single disc with no gimmicks". No I didnt, I bought the one that appealed to me.

So my question is why complain and tell studios not to make them anymore simply because YOU dont like em?

Halloween, Hellraiser, Christmas Story, Wizard of Oz, I am Legend, Watchmen, Harry Potter, Wolverine, Woodstock, Casablanca, Blade Runner, Snow White, Terminator 2, Notebook, Wanted...and probably more...I bought em all! Were there cheaper single disc versions available? Of course, but I didn't want those, so I didnt get em.

Am I *****ing? Yeah a little, but only because I'm not here saying they should ONLY release giant box set Blu-rays, I'm saying, if you don't want to big giant gimmicky sets, then dont buy them, there are other options available, and if those options work for you, then AWESOME, they just dont work for me. Just quit *****ing about box sets, they exist, and people like me love em, so whats the problem?

And I don't want to turn this rant into some ***** fest from all the replys about box sets being too expensive and yadda yadda yadda...look I'm no rich man, I have a normal retail management job, a wife, a mortgage and 2 car payments, so its not about this is cheaper then this or thats more expensive then that. This is about options.

You dont want the box set...dont buy the box set. I dont want the single disc if there is other options available... I dont buy the single disc.

Plain and simple, you choose the option that appeals to you, and dont ***** about what appeals to others, you dont like the box sets, I do, so why should studios stop producing them?

Thats it for this rant, stay tuned for more in the future...like...

*My rant on the statement "I already own the DVD so I wont buy the Blu-Ray"

*My rant on people who complain about "Black Bars" AKA My rant on Full Screen vs. Widescreen

AND SO MUCH MORE....STAY TUNED!

To answer the question, sets like "Casablanca" and "The Notebook" were released just as box sets. So, members didn't have the option of getting just the movie at a fair price. If they did, nobody would have complained about it. As it is, it's just a money grab.

Wizard of Oz was announced JUST as an UCE (the single disc, and no frills 3 disc version were surprises that nobody saw coming. Ditto Woodstock). So, until this was known, people were angry at having to spend $60 for a catalog title.

And, annoncing your future rands about subjects that have been beaten to death here already? Really? Why do you think that your opinion is so valuable. Get off the soapbox and participate in the discussion instead of trying to dominate them...

The soapbox happyface thingee is fabulous....

Take it easy on him...... I find it a refreshing change from the "I hate Eco Cases" or "Ernest Goes to Camp WHO'S BUYING IT?" threads that pop up on a daily basis.

OP....

I prefer single case editions solely due to price..... but when I look over large collections of DVDs people have, and they have a shelf FULL of these special editions (which I passed on during the DVD days too) I think they make great pieces for collectors..... Many unique special editions (endo-skull, Planet of the Apes, etc) have been released over time, including some pretty great T.V. on DVD boxed sets......... I personally find it pretty impressive when someone has a LOT of them.

I don't know why someone would attack the OP for liking special editions..... it's like attacking the guys doing the custom cover-art... I personally have no use for it, but there are a lot of creative and talented people making those, and it works for them..... no harm in that.

edit:

It's a Shoot! I knew it!

It's not the opinion. It's the attitude. I like some special editions. But I was turned off the post by the arrogance...

Slightly off-topic, but is there an "Ignore" feature on this board?

yeah, it should be in your User-CP I believe..... or I think you can select it when viewing the user's profile for which you wish to put on ignore.

I love the box sets too, but people should at least have the option of buying a standalone version.

I Love Collector's Box Sets and will choose it over single discs anytime...

Until I see the price tag of the box sets...

That's when I might change my mind..
