So did Seinfeld in its first season.

Terrible news; this was the best cop drama on tv last year by far, and right up there with best drama, period.

Comparing this show to any of the Law & Order SVU - NCIS - The Badge nonsense is like standing Raging Bull next to Rocky V. No comparison at all.

The bottom line as to why a show gets cancelled is generally this:

No audience. The ratings are too low for corporate sponsors to spend money on airtime or the audience demographic is not appealing to corporate sponsors to spend money on airtime.

or

Ratings may be decent, but corporate sponsors pulled their ads/air times or simply do not want their product promoted with a particular show.

So basically it all comes down to money. A network just isn't going to support a show that can not recoup costs, no matter how good a show may be to fans.

Yep, and Seinfeld would never have seen a second season in today's TV landscape. I'm not saying the show deserved to be canceled, I never watched it, but if the ratings had stayed strong NBC would have found a spot for it.

I'm curious what NBC's feeling on Leno's show are. The show has plummeted in the ratings and is getting less than 5 million viewers a night. However, the show's dirt cheap compared to producing 5 hours of primetime programming with no guarantee of success. I've also heard that established producers are staying away from NBC because there's a higher likelihood that a new show would be canceled.

TNT is going to air the season 2 episodes that have already been filmed, as well as the season 1 episodes, but has not ordered any additional episodes. The episodes will begin airing Thursday, January 12 at 10/9 central.

AICN said they would start casting too. I think cable is better for this show in the long run.

Thanks for the update.

I hope TNT picks up the show.
Watched through it's first season and thought it was a great.

NBC first kills off Kings and then Southland. You just have to shake your head.

Don't understand the network mentality of not allowing a show to grow and capture its audience. Some of the most successful shows started with mediocre ratings.

That's just the way the industry is reacting right now. Many companies are tightening their belts and one of the first things to get hit is the advertising budgets. If the numbers aren't there immediately then the shows can get cut.

As long as it's back, I'll watch. I really enjoyed seeing C. Thomas Howell on the show.
