I guess this can be somewhat of an Official thread for the Optoma HD20. Since i just bought one and i did not see a dedicated thread about this new very low-priced 1080p projector I took it upon myself. With the MSRP of $1099 you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Some gratuitous pics of my Optoma HD20

New Meets Old

Showcasing

Decent amount of Inputs although I will probably only use 1 HDMI

Temporarily Set-up in my HT throwing around 121" I am shooting for around 130" when finished.

Looks good! I'm right now trying to decide between the HD65 for $699.99 US and the HD20 for $999.99. I would really like 1080p, but I'm on a pretty limited budget and I'm only throwing onto an 84" screen. Hmmmm, decisions...

Nice, looks great. I am also looking at this projector for sometime next year possibly. Just ordered a 92" screen. Hopefully after tax season I can arrange to purchase a projector.

I think you would only disappoint yourself in the long run if you got the HD65 the extra $300 will more than likely get you much more enjoyment out of your projector and for a much longer period of time. I would just wait and save up some extra money and buy the HD20. At MSRP its only $1099 locally on TigerDirect its been $999.99 plus 10% bing cash back.

Congrats Layd, it looks great and at 121", that is nothing to sneeze at. I almost got this projector, but I got just too good of a deal on a 720p. But this was #1 on my 1080p projector list before I got the deal offered to me for the 720p. Enjoy!

Thanks, sad thing was before i bought it i thought 120" wouldnt be big enough, Man was I all wrong. 120" is F'N Huge.

Now dont get me wrong I am still going to try and squeeze 125-130" Out if at all possible.

I think I will go for the HD20 if I can. I am bidding on a used HD65 on eBay, but I have already reached my max bid with 5 days left on the auction. If I am outbid on it, I will jump on the HD20. If not, I will have gotten the HD65 for a great price.

Default Hd65

I just nabbed a HD65 last week. For 720p, the image is stunning. I paid around $600 on J and R.

I have also been considering the HD20 (although in Canada I think it is called the HD200x). I am new to projectors but it is my understanding that a DLP unit is more limited in placement then an LCD unit but I'm having trouble finding any exact specs on where they can and cannot be placed.

Thanks Beta, that's a great page. I already know I will have the distance for the screen size I want, I'm more concerned about vertical placement in relation to the screen. It's my understanding that DLP's do not offer the same vertical and horizontal shifts that LCD's do. Am I safe to assume that as long as the lens is centered and below the top of the screen that I will not have a problem?

^this is my next upgrade after the bulbs in mine dies =). 1080p for $1,000ish. that's freakin' insane =). i luv it.

only thing that'd stop me from upgrading would be OLED-based 3-D projection... that'd throw some monkey wrench into future upgrades...

I just got my HD200x on Tuesday (Canadian version of the HD20)

I've never owned a projector before, but I have to say that I am very impressed with the picture on this thing. I haven't calibrated it at all so I'm sure once I have it all mounted and play with the settings it will look even better. I don't see how you can beat it for the price

Looks good. Check out AVS for some calibration settings, it will make a big difference, and it looks better after about 100 hours.

Default Looking to get an Optoma HD20

Hi Guys
Sorry for hijacking. Im a new member and cant start a new thread.
I'd love to get a 1080p projector. Im looking at the Optoma HD20 on a budget. It seems like a great one.
The problem Im having is that Im renting a unit at the moment and down the line I would like a room dedicated for my home theatre. For now, would it be a bad idea to setup this projector in my lounge. Can I cover all windows with black sheeting? It can be pretty dark during the day and its to be used mainly at night.
Also I was wondering if I was to purchase from the US (with current exchange rate, heaps cheaper than here in Australia) - Would this affect my PS3/Xbox 360 etc with PAL.

Hope you can help a newbie, thanks.

For my fellow Canucks, the HD20 is available now in Canada. Vistek is carrying it.
