Yeah realy... Dont be so lazy!!! lol
Great to hear about PQ. You think my Samsung will improve as much with the colors you described, or its all in the better parts the Panny is using???
Thanks again for the info.

I have no basis for my belief other than experience with about two dozen DVD players in the last ten years, but I believe it's simply that Panasonic is better built and its decoding is done in a different manner.

I'd like to think that the Samsung firmware patch will bring that player's PQ closer to the Panny. But I'm also inclined to agree with Chris, that the Panasonic is better built and so on, which might account for the differences in PQ. (Jeez, I hope so, for the price paid!)

Chris, we should both keep an eye on the Panasonic support site for that BD-J firmware upgrade. There's nothing there yet. I hope it's posted by the end of the month or at least before the first Fox titles with BD-J come out.

The Panasonic DMP-BD10 Blu-ray player delivered phenomenal picture and sound quality, there is no question about it. This player undeniably proved to me the potential of the Blu-ray format.

Finally getting a chance to play with it a bit more. The lack of information on the display is bothersome, but having hit the "status" button and I'm more than happy with having that. Hitting it twice brings you to a status bar (I've checked only w/DVD so far) that lists the Title, Chapter and current time. The status bar shows the progress of the video across the title you're watching.

The pillarboxing of DVDs is also a plus. I'm actually liking the remote the more I use it. The jog wheel for fast forwarding/scanning is really nice and smooth.

As a side note, I took my Samsung and hooked it up to my parents 32" Toshiba HDTV CRT yesterday and watched Eight Below on it. It definitely looked better than it did on my Panny 50" LCD set but not as sharp and smooth as the Panasonic. So my longterm plan is working nicely. This player will last me until next summer when the BD-Live equipped players come out and the DMP-10 will become my office player. Between the PS3 and the Panny I should be able to test all manner of discs.

Yeah, definitely keeping an eye on that. I need to find out if there's a number to talk to someone about those free discs though. The phrasing indicates a choice but I'm wondering if they're going to update that page as more BDs are available.

I noticed that it was confirmed that the Panasonic does allow the option to turn off the video section for when playing back audio-only discs such as CDs, DVD-As, and, down the road, audio-olny BR releases. This is really looking like the player for me. This will fulfill my audiophile (DVD-A, BD audio-only releases, separate video section that can be turned off) and high-def video needs.

^ Yeah, I saw that option in the setup menu, but since I don't have any DVD-As, I didn't pay much attention to it.

Well, I have a lot of DVD-As (and way more SACDs). Currently, I use a Denon DVD-2200 universal for my DVD-A playback, and it has the ability to turn off the video circuitry, front panel display, and digital output right from buttons on the front of the unit. If the Panasonic sounds as good or better than the Denon, it may become my main DVD-A unit as well. My SACDs I will continue to play on my Sony XA9000ES SACD/CD player.

Yeah me too. With no expectation of 7.1 analogue on the Sony player I think that I am gonna have to go with the Panasonic.

Now if I can only get one for $1000 even

I paid $1150 for it after the 12% coupon from BB. Only $150 more than the Sammy or Sony-- that's how I justified it. Plus, 12 months interest-free financing with the BB card. Just try to make the best deal that you can. It can be done!

Hi, Has anyone managed to unlock the region restrictions (DVD or BLU Ray) from this machine. I know it is early days, but someone may have tried.

Thanks
