I was just talking to someone within Warner and they said it’s actually a rumor started within WB itself, but has no basis in fact; it is highly speculative and most likely not true. Probably started by the same person! However, they did say in this business they wouldn't discount anything, especially with regards to this stupid format war (their words not mine, but I agree with them, this whole thing is pretty pathetic). At any rate, I will be waiting along with everyone else, but my enthusiasm at first hearing this news was essentially squashed when I talked to my Warner contact.

absolutely agree. its ridiculous that people expect him to hang out here and be redundant in answering all of the questions and addressing the fear when he's done it through several posts in this thread. he has a life and its not in allegiance to quelling the frenzy over here. he had news. he was excited. he shared it. and addressed as best he could the concerns of all of us. read all of his posts. im pretty sure he's legit. but again...time will tell.

cheer up, 2 possiblities will happen, 1. it happens and we celebrate(kinda like now) or 2. it doesn't happen and we going on doign what we've done all ong buy more BD's. honestly I'm trying to remain excited for this as HD-DVD will likely have some FUD come up to ruin it for us some time, might as well enjoy the moment!

nobody from warner will say anything until 10 pst tommorow out of fear of losing their jobs. the fact that it came out of warner and your contact says they wouldn't discount anything speaks millions.

You also have to figure that most, if not all, of the work for the HD-DVD discs announced already has been completed. Plus, WB has probably already placed orders to have the HD-DVD discs replicated which could cost them to cancel. WB could easily have a lot of money to lose by not releasing the HD-DVD discs. It might be cheaper to just release them and break even (or maybe even turn a profit) then just scrap them.

And as others have said, the fence sitters waiting for the format war to be over are more likely to jump onto Blu-Ray with this announcement making up for any losses releasing the HD-DVD discs might cause.

Plus, as others have already stated, it's damned fine PR in light of the fallout from Paramount's abrupt defection. WB still gets to come out looking good by releasing everything it has announced. And it wins by letting everyone know that they're effectively wasting money on HD-DVD for the rest of the year. They walk away without really ruffling any feathers.

What's Happened in the past month with nickerson stepping down and the new line releases being solely Bluray it makes complete sense. I thought Warner Brothers would stay neutral a little longer but this makes sense. If you are going to go exclusive why not do it before 4th quarter so anyone on the fence will buy a blu ray player this holiday season. This is the Death Blow to HDDUD that we have waited for if it's true. Universal will go neutral soon after and Paramount will buy out of there deal in Q2 next year after losing more than they gained in there pay off. Let's all pray to the BlU GODS tonight!!!
