I disagree. There is alot of reason for them to go Blu Ray Exclusive now and not wait it out till Q1. If they have been leaning towards Blu it would be important for them to get all the fence sitters this holiday season. Retailers have already begun to give more space to BluRay, this would be the kicker for them to expand even more and start to tell consumers that this thing is over. Get Consumers on Board with BluRay in Q4 when people are spending money. It would be the smartest decision they could make. I know everyone is saying double dipping they would want to make more from both formats. Well if what this Guy is saying is true, they still will to some degree. I don't know makes alot of sense to me. Did I mention this guy sounds alot like BILL HUNT!!! Hmmm

"risk waiting and have HD reign over the holidays"? after a year of blu 'reigning' over sales, why would it all of a sudden change for the 4th quarter exactly? But overall, the rumor clearly says that they will announce going exclusive, and honor all announcement for HD through 2007, and stop releasing on HD in 2008. So this 'desperate' move would really have no effect on the holidays whatsoever, since plenty of HDDVDs will still be available. |

Public computer? such as an internet booth? Those two comments alone make this look like crap to me. Alot of attention and detail was paid, more than likely by someone who has a minimal social life (or no life) probably no girlfriend, a boring tech job, still a virgin and a proud Toshiba HD-DVD player.... ![]() |

If true, it would be too bad. At least wait until after 4th Quarter but Sony might be desperate at this point. Can they risk waiting and having HD reign over the holidays? Sony stands to loose and it would be HD's gain, so they might have done a really substantial payout to lock-in the exclusivity rights for WB now before it's too late. Sony wants to win, they want to win at all and any costs. Too much at stake, so with a sense of desperation anything truly is possible. I AM SORRY BUT.... usually I don't respond to the above comments-but give me a break. HD reigning over the holidays-if you are at a 30 to 70 loss during the off season how much is blu-ray going to crush over the holiday season--that is one of the funniest comments i have seen in a long time. HD is the last one that should be talking about Payouts - at least Blu-Ray can retain STudio Support based on their quality and doesn't have to fork out hundreds of millions everytime they are dying and need a studio - you have Universal and Paramount both of which were paid for. |

There's a very good, valid reason... one which has already been detailed here. As long as there is a format war, the vast, VAST majority of consumers are going to wait before buying either. Once the war is over, many consumers will begin to upgrade to HD. The movie studios can either start making that money THIS Christmas, or wait and start making that money NEXT Christmas. With WB releasing the biggest movie franchise in history (Harry Potter) THIS Christmas on Blu-ray, they stand to make MUCH more money by ending the format war now.
