I know you have 2 electric Elite Sreens with two different aspect ratios.(and that you built an Awesome valance for and then wraped it in Black Velvet and made it look better then I have seen in High End Audio Audition Rooms)
![]() What I was wondering, that with your knowledge on screens have you ever heard of a manual pull down screen with a 2.35 to 2.40:1 aspect ratio for less then $300 or $400. I havent been able to find any manuals like that just fixed screens at 2.35:1 and then they are still a few hundred themselves. I know Elite has the Osprey dual screen set but that costs as much as 2 Mortgage Payments ![]() So if you happen to run across a manual pull down or maybe a used electric screen with a ratio around 2.35:1 for @$175.00 or less, could you let me know. I would be most Greatful and Thankful ![]() As I would Love to do what you did but have 2 manual pull down screens with the 2 different aspect ratios so I can eliminate the black bars. Thanks Vega. ![]() And I have to let you know that everytime I look over your thread it inspires me to really try to put together the best system I can. |

Here the thing and the awesomeness of my idea - My 2.35 electric screen is simply a bigger 16:9 screen dropped down enough to give me a 2.35 aspect ratio. This is how I paid $300 for it. There are no 2:35 electric screens for less that $1500! In your case, you can do the same thing except get a Bigger Manual 16:9 screen and pull it down enough to give you the 2.35:1 aspect ratio. What you have to work out is how wide you want the viewing area to be on the screen and then find the appropriate 16:9 manual screen that has that viewing width (remember that the length is controlled by how far you pull down). The final touch could be to buy adhesive masking to place on top of the viewing area to frame the 2.35. In my research a manual 125" runs for less than $200. Here's how I worked-out my Big screen dimensions. Beware a little Algebra is coming (if you are alergic to Algebra, please skip): The Height I needed was 45" (since my 16:9 screen is 92" diagonal or 45"x80" wxh) To calculate the Length of an appropriate 2.35 aspect ratio you use this formula: Length = Width x 2.35 So in my case, Length = 45" x 2.35 = 106". The 16:9 screen I had to look for had to have a viewing length of not less than 106". Now since screens are usually measured in diagonal inches, here's how I calculated the minimum diagonal inches of the 16:9 screen I needed: Big Screen Diagonal = SQRT(Length² + Height²) if you have access to Microsoft Excel, the formula you can copy/paste is: =SQRT((A1)^2+(B1)^2) (where A1 and B1 would be the Length and Height of the big screen) In my case plugging the numbers gave me 121.3 or about 122" diagonal. The closest I found was a 125" diagonal 16:9 screen. Hope this helps, if not PM me. |

http://www.buy.com/prod/205877558.html Not sure how much room you have, but this one is a 16:9 135" diagonal and has a case length of 125" or about 10.4 feet. It would give you a viewing width of 118", which means if you pull it down to get a 2.35:1 image, the height would be about 50". Here's a pdf with the detailed dimensions (this one would be the M135H towards the bottom): http://www.elitescreens.com/pdf/dimension_manual.pdf Good luck! ![]() I understand the formulas you used and see how you came up with the dimensions you did.So that is an ingenious way to solve that problem you came up with. ![]() And considering the costs of the manual Elite Screens its certainly something doable and within my budget. My major drawback is I have a very small Home Theater Room. Its @ a 10ft X 10ft,so I end up with a throw distance of 7ft10 to 8ft2,all depending on how close to the front wall I can hang the 16:9 ratio Elite Screen with the L Brackets they sale. I am having to use an 84 inch diagonal screen for my room(and the image from my projector still wont completely fill the 84 inch screen I will be using). So I will have an even smaller diagonal sized screen going with a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. But considering I am using a 37inch 720p LCD TV now almost any increase in screen size is a major upgrade. So I will take a look at Elites sizes and see which screen would fit the best. I am very Greatful and Thankful for your help,Vega. What you did in both making your own screen and in filling me in on how you did it,is just Awesome ![]() You are a really Great guy and Very Big Hearted in helping others(such as myself in this case). So,again Thank You. ![]() ![]() ![]() Your work is amazing and your ability to explain it where even I could understand it is quite the accomplishment. ![]() So have a Great Night,my Friend.I will be closing down shop and going to sleep here shortly(I have been up since 1:30 AM)But I will follow your instructions and Thanks to you I will have a dual screen set-up to accomidate both popular aspect ratios. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
