The poster who said the toughness has been taken out is completely right.
I remember games where there was hard checking from beginning to end, now your lucky if you get a good hit a period. My dad has loved hockey his entire life, but finds it to be incredibly boring now. Way too many penalties now, which equals whistle after whistle. I still enjoy it though, just wish the physical aspect was put back in.

I agree and disagree. There are way too many penalties now and the whistle is blown all too often, however I also think the skill level of the game has gone up substantially. Instead of teams just finding the biggest meanest enforcer they could find they have to search for someone who ACTUALLY knows how to play the sport. In that sense, the pace of the game seems to have gone up as skill levels have gone up, teams are now playing hockey, instead of UFC.

Checking has nothing to do with fighting.

But the part about teams just getting their hands on the first 300 pound guy who can skate was. The whole "enforcer" thing was just terrible I'm glad that has changed at least. Now if only we can find a happy medium.

When did I say that? I was just saying they could make things a little more physical. Almost every time I see a good battle or hit there is a penalty. They are basically scaring the players to play with no action. I agree skill level has gone up, which I like, but come on every team needs an enforcer.

do u actually believe that?...the pens were what 4th seed last season (well 1 pt away) and now they've gotten stronger, their rookies aren't rookies no more, and Stall, Malkin can only get better....and now they've added some protection for Sid...no more getting speared, as proven by LeRaque against Habs...they've added to their d...and added Sykora and Roberts...so they can only improve...

Sorry but Jagr is a fag...he only plays when he feels like...and if somebody damages his fragile ego, he becomes the cry baby that decided to leave the pens for the caps...

Phily is going nowhere...NJ will always be there...

Last season is the key word to your post. Saints were good last season also.

Have you seen the teams that the division has. They are all stacked up with talent.

Im talking about this season.

what?...its the same team from last season...they were successful...now they've built on that...gotten better...so why would u say they won't make it without seeing 1 regular season game

Buffalo has cut up their team...Leafs are never going to win anything...Habs, like always will disappoint, Sens are stacked up the gills...we'll c

i know what your saying but Philly, Nj and NY spent alot and got some great players. Pitt needs to beat them all everytime to get into the playoffs since they are all in the same divison.

I know there is but 2 from each divison. So Pitt will have to fight off all the teams for those last 2 spots.

I agree with him that division is going to be insane, but NY and NJ will come out of it on top. i actually think the Islanders will surprise, much to my dismay. I hope somebody hands New Jersey their ass.

I forgot about the Islanders. Pitt is going to have a hell of a time getting out this season.

its not the top 8 from the east

its 2 from each divison plus 2 more

if it was the top 8 then all 5 of the mid atlantic division would always make it

I agree...the penguins are going to be a great contender this year! Crosby still has so much more potential, his skill is STILL untapped! I can't wait for the playoffs!!! And they're predicting staal may be better than his brother, only time will tell! They do have a great line this year!!!
