Truthfully, there is just a simple crossover on menu screen 4a2 - Speaker Setting. All you do is set the one single crossover. By doing so it sends any frequency below that setting to the subwoofer, thats it. The default setting is 80hz for all speakers. There is no option at all to check the levels. It is pretty much cut and dry right here as to what the crossover is for the LFE by this single crossover setting.

So are you saying that you can have your all your speakers set at one crossover level and the subwoofer at a different level?

Hmmm this is the first im hearing about this. the xover settings are 50, 80, 100, 150 and 200, you should be able to change them.

From what i know, they all have to be the same. pioneer doesn't allow individual Xovers.

Is anyone here using an new Pioneer Elite receiver with a PS3 slim? I just read on another forum that there are some issues with the new Elites and the current firmware on the PS3 slim. Has anyone had any issues with this? I was planning to get one of the new slim PS3s after I get the new receiver so I would like to know more about what the issues are. Thanks.

Just check the speaker settings menu when you can jruc, and describe what you see, and if there is a seperate crossover setting (aside for the subwoofer) for your speakers. My SC-05 does not have one, so I can't even verify visibly what the setting is. I have to rely on what I have been told, and that it is set at a default of 80Hz for all of my speakers....which is fine with me anyway.

I'd love to help you fireman, but not having a PS3 of any kind puts me at a disadvantage to as far as what type of issue or handshaking problem there may be. If I hear anything or find anything out, I'll be sure to let you know......

Thanks for the reply. From what I've read elsewhere the issues (if there really are any) are limited to the new slim version. I was planning to get one of these after I get the new receiver so I'm very curious to find out if there's anything to this. I'm currently using one of the 'regular' PS3s.

On a side note I'm about halfway there with saving up for the new SC-25 and I have enough work scheduled at my part-time job to cover the other half. It looks like by the end of next month I should have it.

Awesome! I look forward to reading your impressions. When you get close, print out the manual (print it at work if you can....I did and keep a copy here with me to help out while I am here). I think the SC-25 manual is like around 150 pages....my SC-05/07 manual is 140 pages!

I checked your manual......your menu is exactly the same as mine, so I don't think you can change the speaker's crossover....

I'm really looking forward to it, and I've already printed the manual.

I always thought you can change the speakers xover but they all have to be the same.

So you cant change the speakers xover but you can change the sub to any xover? if thats the way it works then that kind of changes the gripe i had with these receivers. cause i thought in order to have my sub at 120hz i would have to put my speakers that high also, and vice versa.

Hi fireman. Yes, there is a reported issue with the newer Pioneer receivers and the Slim. The issue occurs when you bitstream the lossless audio from the PS3 to the receiver. Sometimes the audio doesn't play at the beginning of movies. I've had this happen and the way to fix it is to pause the movie for a sec and then press play. After that, the audio is fine. Of course, you could set the PS3 Slim to decode the audio then there wouldn't be an issue at all. This obviously only happens with the Slim since it's the only model that can bitstream the lossless audio.

What you could always do is change your crossover setting and see if you hear anything noticeable with your speakers. If you set that crossover at 150Hz, then anything below that goes to the sub. If you set that crossover at 80Hz, you may hear a bit more on the low end coming from your speakers since they would now be getting the the LFE range between 80Hz to 120Hz. You could just say that there is no HPF with the Elite's, but the LPF of LFE almost works the same way in replacing it. The difference being we are minus the ability to adjust the speakers or their crossover's individually.

Ok your confusing me now, i know how xovers work, so you cant change the speakers xover, but you can change the LFE?

It seems like now your saying you can change them.

But anyway, from what i've read and seen, you can change xovers in the speakers but they all have to be the same.

Yep, that is what is stated in the manual to me SC-05, Page 56 and 57. On the bottom of page 57, #3, it states it as the cutoff for the LFE only.

Here is what the screen would look like...4a2.....

4a.Manual SP Setup
4a2.Speaker Setting
A/V RECEIVER

Front : SMALL
Surr : SMALL
Center : SMALL
SB : SMALL x 2
SW : YES

X.OVER : 80Hz

3 Select ‘X. OVER’ and set the crossover frequency.3
Frequencies below this point will be sent to the
subwoofer (or LARGE speakers).

3 • This setting decides the cutoff between bass sounds playing back from the speakers selected as LARGE, or the subwoofer, and bass sounds
playing back from those selected as SMALL. It also decides where the cutoff will be for bass sounds in the LFE channel.
• If you’re using a THX speaker setup, confirm that the crossover frequency is set to 80Hz.

Ok i see.

When i read that the SC elites only allows "one universal xover setting" i thought that meant that you can change the xover, but all speakers had to use the same one.

Then thats good, my new speakers will be crossed at 80hz anyway so that doesn't bother me thats its locked to that setting. i was more worried that i wouldn't be able to set the LFE independently of the speakers xovers, that they all had to be the same.

EDIT- i think i read that wrong

I would have felt the same way you did if that was the case. Thankfully it isn't. I too would be annoyed if the crossovers worked that way. I still think for an AVR of this level, we should have the option to change the inidividual crossovers for each speaker, regardless. This is the biggest oversight that the Elite's possess and it is also my biggest gripe about them too!

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like it's easy enough to deal with when this happens to you. I wonder if it's something that will be addressed in a future firmware update in the PS3 slim.
