:P
Haha. The call against the Yankees actually cost them a run. The calls against the Angels didn't change the outcome of the game, except maybe made the pitcher throw a couple more pitches.

I wonder if it's all intentional because someone wants instant replay expanded, so they put in an order to umpires to make bad calls. I have no idea why there have been so many bad calls all year.

So what is it with all the non-Yankee fans and their "they just try to buy championships" attitude?

If we want an example of "buying" a World Series, look at the 2004 Red Sox. Only 1 person on that entire team was from their farm system (Trot Nixon).
It's great how well money seems to buy championships. The Yankees have had the top payroll for the last 9 years, but not many World Series trophies to show for it.

It's a great line to throw out when the Yankees are winning, but there isn't much basis for it.

True, but they spent smarter this year... I will give them that haha... Texiera was the icing on the cake really... I doubt the Yanks would be where they are right now if they still had Giambi :P

I see they want Holliday next year now. Getting a bit silly. Maybe time to put the Yanks in their own division and automatically make the playoffs every season. They can play themselves for 162 games in the meantime maybe haha

Let's be honest Yankee fans, both series so far have been no contests at all... the Twins were full of holes with their what 50 million payroll?!?! And the Angels benefiited from playing the A's and teams like that all season. It's hardly exciting for Non-Yankee fans to watch... ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

PS I am a joking sort of funny guy... doesn't always come across on here

Yeah... I really hate getting into payroll arguments...because yes the Yanks are a business and make alot of money obviously... but damn, this is getting very very very very tough for other teams... esp in the AL East... let alone the Playoff match ups... would be nice to just get there again someday haha.

Maybe the World Series should be the MLB AllStars(minus any Yanks on the team) Vs the New Your Yankees hehe

Price may mean great free agents but keep in mind that the Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2000. They picked up A-Rod in '04 expecting big things and didn't get anything in return. Of course now it has paid off but he struggled to earn his pinstripes.

Yankees will win this year!

I'm confident!

The only problem i've got is the Yanks getting at Hamels, Lee ,Martinez etc...

The Phillies pitching is awesome!

I'm looking forward to picking up a Yankees World Series hat! It's been a long time and my '03 one is getting old.

Yankees.com will have them. We have a hat store called Lids that has all the up to date sports hats. They are how they've been for the past 10 years...interlocking NY with the world series logo on the side and the mlb logo on the back.

I agree, they definitely have started spending smarter which will lead to more ships, instead of buying the big name hitters/ not really researching the pitching they over paid. Could you imagine if they'd been smarter gobbling up people like Beckett, Santana exc. + what they have now

C.C.
Santana
Beckett
Aj

then bullpen
Chamberlin
Mariano

I do agree if an owner isn't putting up money and is just trying to take advantage of his logo to make money for himself teams like that should have zero say in we need a cap, but for teams like the brewers who never had a chance at CC it isn't really fair.

This team better SMOKE Philly !!! show them why the AL East POWNS

Yeah, it seems like the Yankees were ready to start spending smarter, and spending less, but then then the CC/AJ/Teix acquisitions bumped up their payroll a lot. It seemed like they'd only get 1 of the 3, but ended up signing all 3, which was somewhat surprising.

That being said, the other problem with comparing payrolls is that they're not measured evenly. Yankee salaries are obviously inflated, and have forced some teams, like Boston, to try to match them, but most teams won't even bother trying. Here are examples:

Bobby Abreu
2008 Salary w/ Yankees = 16 million
2009 Salary w/ Angels = 5 million

He did nothing wrong. The Yankees just needed to make some room on their roster. But he was forced to take a huge paycut, because he wasn't playing on the Yankees anymore.

Jason Giambi
2008 Salary w/ Yankees = 23.5 million
2009 Salary w/ Oak/Col = 4 million

Sure, he had some rough seasons with the Yankees, but his 2008 stats weren't too far off from the stats he was putting up during his first run with Oakland, which caused the Yankees to give him the huge contract they did.

Jeter makes 22 million, and there are plenty of short stops that can put up sunukar numbers for a lot less money. But he's Jeter, and is a living legend in Yankee-dom, so they throw the money at him.

So before any meaningful comparison of payrolls can be made, the Yankee number has to be deflated to a more realistic number, to account for the inflated prices they like to pay.

All the "Yankees buy championships" talk just sounds like whining from people whose teams aren't in contention anymore, or never were. There are 7 teams with just as many World Series trophies this decade as the Yankees, and 1 that has more. You can't buy championships, you can only buy yourself a slightly better chance of winning one. Or if you're the Mets, you can't even do that.

I just know that it will be a very good series..The Phillies will want to defend their championship and most of the Yankees have never gotten a ring...A-Rod being the main one. Jeter, Mo, and Jorge have been waiting nearly 10 years for another ring.

It's not going to be easy but I still think the Yanks can pull it off!

Looks like the Phillies are headed there...the Dodgers are not going to win tonight.

I agree it is inflated.. But come on had the yanks gotten JUST becks and Santana it would have been signed and sealed for at least 3 championships since he left the twins.

I would have just loved to seen it even though I hate the yankees (less then I hate Philly) How cool would that be to have a 4 man rotation like that !

And then they'd have added Doc next year
CC
Santana
Beckett
Doc
AJ OWNED.
