Correct. So if you want to hear DTS ES 6.1 Discrete or Dolby EX 5.1, set the PS3 audio setting to HDMI bitstream.

Also, on 7.1 system, when watching a 5.1 source are the rear channels suppose to be silent as well, I only hear sound from the center, fronts and sides (shouldn't the sides be silent and the rears active?

I'm guessing that for the Onkyo 605, the sides speakers in a 5.1 audio IS the rear speakers.
