Pshhh I don't think I struggled to have to a top list forget about 25.

1. Moon
2. 500 DAys of Summer
3. Up
4. Where the Wild Things Are
5. Inglourious Basterds
6. District 9
7. Star Trek
8. Hangover

That's about it.

A few movies that I haven't seen, but have peaked my interest are:
Adventureland
Damned United
Rudo y Cursi
Paper Heart
World's Greatest Dad
Moon
Bright Star
The Hurt Locker
Ponyo

There is also a mexican gang movie whose name escapes me.
Adventureland is a bore, it's a story that's been done before with characters you care little to none for. It's a story that's been done many times. It's rarely funny except for the Bill Hader moments which are like 2-3 scenes.

World's Greatest Dad was enjoyable and different for the first half but it suddenly becomes cliche and a bore in the second half. It loses it's charm and becomes predictable & cliche story.

Hurt Locker isn't too bad, worth a watch once but I don't see myself really revisiting that movie again. Just not enough to make watch it again.

Moon best movie of the year so far and I think Sam Rockwell is the top guy to win Best Actor.

Idioteque...can you give me a brief synopsis about Moon? I think Rockwell is a great actor and should have gotten more recognition for his role in The Assassination of Jesse James. It would be great if this film did it for him.

Watched Milk and Pehlam 123 yesterday. Won't buy them on Blu-ray. They were good, but I will probably never watch either again. 2009 hasn't given me much yet, just 2. #1 Wolverine, which is for fans, I sure can't argue that it a masterpiece, but I enjoyed it. And #2 Taken, waiting to get edition with Mandarin subtitles, for wifey.

Really want to see these and have feeling I will buy some:
Up (Buy!)
A Christmas Carol (Buy!)
Terminator Salvation (Buy!)
Public Enemies (Very hopeful, may Buy)
Star Trek (Strong maybe)
Inglourious Basterds (Strong maybe)
The Road (Strong maybe)
earth (probably buy)
Taking Woodstock (Slight maybe)
Law Abiding Citizen (ready to be let down)
Zombieland (redy to be let down)

I've been buying too many movies this year. In fact I only bought my blu ray player in November of last year and I'm nearing the century mark in blu rays. It's an addiction!

That said, I'm seriously thinking about the following movies to acquire this year or early next:

1) Battlestar Galactica the Complete Series (hopefully under the Christmas tree)
2) Forrest Gump
3) Star Trek (2009)
4) Falling Down
5) Contact
6) Willy Wonka
7) District 9
8) Up
9) Monster's Inc
10) Watchmen
11) Terminator Salvation
12) Star Trek TOS seasons 1 and 3 (have 2 already)
13) Inglorious Basterds
14) Coraline
15) 9
16) Waterworld
17) Ice Age Triple Pack
18) Army of Darkness
19) The Clone Wars season 1
20) Ultimate Matrix Collection

Yes. Really.

I enjoyed Wolverine and Taken, and like to have them in my collection. Sure they are not The Godfather or The Shining, but they are enjoyable movies, IMO.

Haven't seen Terminator:Salvation; hoping it will be good. Law Abiding Citizen, I want to see, but am not expecting it will be worth purchasing.

What are you picks of '09?

I don't even think that there will be 25 movies that have been released this year and are worth a Blu-ray purchase!

Of the ones I've seen, "Star Trek" is the only one I'd say is a no-brainer blind-buy.

"The Watchmen" is brilliant in its own way, but not everybody likes it.

"Inglourious Basterds" is generally well-liked, and I find it good too, but I imagine that some may be bored with it. I'd reccomend it if you liked "Pulp Fiction."

"Coraline" was cute. Maybe too cute, depending on your sensibilities. Go rent it.

"Drag Me To Hell" was not bad, but I'm not sure if you'd want to blind-buy it.

Eventually, I plan on blind-buying "Up," "District 9," maybe "Public Enemies," and renting "The Hangover," "Zombieland," and any of the others. I'll get "Harry Potter" when they release the massive complete box set.
