The HDers are right on one thing: Since pre-1.1 players are "grandfathered" in, they're not going to put them OOP for a long time. The hardware people are going to wait as long as possible (spring probably) to actually start making it a standard

I'm not really worried about the profiles right now becasue I'm not a big "extras" guy. My only concern would be if new discs started not to play at all in my player and firmware updates didnt help.

But I figure by the time 2.0 becomes the standard and prices fall a bit it will be time for me to upgrade the 1400 to something else.

For right now I'm really happy with it. At least a good year or two I'll bet I will be happy.

At first the profile thing scared me and now I'm more like....ehh, not really that big a deal.

I'm a noob here - any thoughts on Oct and Nov sales?

From Hi Def Digest

We (Blu) has

Oct: 56 releases
Nov: 49 releases
105 total releases

HD-DVD has

Oct: 38 releases (11 are reissues)
Nov: 17 releases
55 total releases (44 less reissues)

I realize we got the elephant in the room with Transformers, but with Blu having about a 2:1 advantage in releases are we poised to have a great sales month?

One disadvantage of all the releases is dilution and perhaps weakening Blu's ratings in the top 10 hi def movie figures.

Dilution will only knock down one or two of the "not quite" top titles, but when its a title that EVERYONE has to have, I personally don't think dilution will be THAT significant.

When you balance dilution against "starvation" as in starving the pipeline of product to sell, I think dilution is a MUCH lesser problem to have... after all, we have seen the effects of starvation this week with Smallville.... if product is not on the shelves people will not buy it.... and the logical extension, if there are no new movies, people will not buy them.

And give the freakin' gloom and doom over transformers a break! Would you rather have a highly over-rated, special effects laden because the acting is for sh!t movie, or would you rather have the BD lineup including Spiderman, Spiderman 2. Spiderman 3, POTC-AWE, CARS, I-Robot, and the ONLY Spielberg movie, Close Encounters???

SO FREAKIN' WHAT IF THEY GET TRANSFORMERS!!!

Its time for all the gloom and doom mongers to quit acting like 8 year old girls, put on their "big girl panties", and quit whining about it... we will get it soon enough, and we have a hell of a lot more QUALITY movies to watch in the mean time!

Finally? It's been outselling HD DVD every week since I believe sometime in July. We would need to go back to see when the reversal happened but it has been quite some time now.

Looking good for Blu-ray still. Gotta laugh at all the stupid remarks Lee makes on that 'other' site. Makes for good times.

I see October being the final month to give us a bit of a tug of war with the numbers. But after that, there is absolutely nothing to signify HD DVD holding on to Blu's coattails any longer.

Gosh did I say that Transformers would be the end of Blu? I didn't state the gloom and doom that you make it out to be.

Transformers will have huge numbers. If you don't believe that, then you are lying to yourself.

What I am asking is that we got a sales advantage leading into Oct with plenty of advantages, but there is a big release that we don't have. I'm posing a question on what this forum thinks Oct sales will be like based on these factors.

that's why the weeks leading up to transformers are so important. the fox titles are so important. they will allow blu-ray to get to roughly 75:25. without those fox titles we would be lucky to hang around 65:35. now what transformers will likely do is take that 75:25 and maybe take it down to 60:40 but without the fox titles transformers would probably take 65:35 to maybe 50:50. so we will still win that week with a 60:40 average. so in other words, oct 2nd and 9th will cushion the transfromers impact.

hmmm, i hope so, i think that FF day and date and 28 weeks later day and date and the invisible day and date may cushion it enough to 50:50 if we are lucky, imo.

Looks like in USA, the PS3 is doing very poorly. The XBOX is way ahead, and the Wii is almost off the chart. But in the whole world... the PS3 and the XBOX are LITERALLY hand in hand! They are following the exact same path while the Wii is, once again, almost off the chart.
I really wish the US consumer would pick up more PS3s, but the only way that will happen is if the price drops another $100!
Good (sort of). That speaks volumes that Blu-ray consumers are buying stand-alone players. Dispells the argument that BD is the format for geeks & gamers. One less thing they can argue against.

I am tracking exclusives to the end of the year.

Currently it is 73:23 3:1

we just need to cushion it because the next 3 weeks after transformers will be total domination by blu-ray. hd dvd have nothing the 23rd but warner titles that we have also. followed by possibly a 80:20 week of the 30th with spider-man 3, the spider-man trilogy and polar express which can be counted as a blu exclusive since hd dvd had it a year ago and look what troy did for blu-ray. than after that week we have nov. 6th with cars, ratatouille and alot more blu exclusives. the 2 weeks of oct. 30th and nov. 6th will be scary..
for hd dvd.

I think the Transformers will be #1 on the first till maybe the third week of release. But the rest in top 10 will be dominated by BD titles. So they have Transformers, we'll have other big titles and the weekly, SI and YTD numbers for BD will go up until the end of the year.

I've said it before, I really liked Transformers. Too bad Paramount and Viacom can be bought by Microsoft via Toshiba.

No dagger, you didn't say that transformers would be the end of BD, but you did refer to it as the "elephant in the room" or something somesuch.

I simply don't think that it will be that significant, yes it will sell - alot, but lets all just put it in perspective people.

Gary
We Are Marshall and Smallville were not available in most South Florida (none in Best Buy) stores until Saturday of the release week. For this week's numbers you will notice a definite rise in We are Marshall and Smallville for Blu-ray.

I'm sure the HD DUD fans will still point out the existance of the old 1.0 players.

I know this isn't available just from this source, but anyone have any idea how many '300' units were sold for HD-DVD so far?

Add another 10% due to people who own both Blu and HD-DVD and that's about where I'd guess Transformers will sell.

No biggie. We can point out their 1080i players that's brand new. 1080p is more important that PiP.
