When your body is asleep it becomes paralyzed of sorts hence the sleep paralysis. If you are in "limbo" between sleep and complete consciousness you find yourself in this scenario. It's more annoying than anything else now. Hope that helps. |

Not a ghost but I believe i seen something. I was at my mothers house(boondocks pretty much, hour or so outside of town) Talking to my gf outside around 9:00. Got a tingling feeling as if I am being watched. I look up at the field on the left of me to see a silhouette of a humaniod staring at me in the brush. I stared back then it kind of strafed back and forth. Then within about 10 seconds it covered the distance of 4 acres into the woods. I imediatly ran inside and stayed up all night watching and waiting.
Then a year or so later I was back at my mothers when I went through the dining room into the kitchen to get a snack. I noticed something at the corner of my eye, a humanoid peaking in the slide windows. I froze for a second then it noticed me looking at it and shot across the window. I got a good look at its body and compared it to the window, it was about 6.5ft and probably no bigger then 150 pounds. Real ugly like a sickly brown could see the veins. I wish I was making this up but unfortunatly I am not. To the op: Ever had that happened again? |

I think I told this one on here before but maybe not.
I was pretty young at the time and a bunch of us were playing wiffle ball in my front yard. At the time, my father had a Model-A Ford parked in the garage. A girl comes up to me and says, "Who's that man in your garage?" "Probably my father." "No, it's not your dad." So a few of us go into the garage through the side entrance (the rollup doors were closed and the side entrance was basically right next to where we were playing). Looking from the back of the car through the windows, we see a guy just standing there at the front of the car. He didn't move, no facial expression. He was standing there just staring at us. Suddenly, he just drops like a trap door opened in the floor. We all hit the deck to look under the car but there was nothing and nowhere to hide. Being kids, we shrugged it off and went back outside to play. |

My wife believes in them big time. She's told me a story similar to the OP's of feeling a presence in her room and her not being able to move. She watches all the Haunted ___ shows, whatever. If we're ever traveling and there's a supposed haunted mansion, house, hotel, gym locker, whatever, we have to see it.
Me, I guess I'm a skeptic at heart. I suppose it's possible, but I can't really say I believe. |

You have described a pretty well-known phenomenon known as sleep paralysis.
I used to have a powerful fascination with ghosts and things paranormal. However, the more I researched the less real the idea of ghosts seemed. Now I am inclined to believe there are mundane explanations for what are reported as ghosts. Not to be a party pooper, but... a.) The ghosts people see are unique from culture to culture. Japanese spirits are different than American spirits. How can that be, unless the idea of spirits has a cultural (rather than supernatural) source? b.) Most ghost are reported in situations that aren't ideal for observation. I speak primarily of the time right before and right after sleep where dreams and reality meet, but also in dark rooms where our primary sense (vision) is at a disadvantage. We feel insecure because we can't see and our hearing becomes more acute to compensate, meaning we hear mundane things which we normally don't notice when the lights are on and which we choose to interpret as threats. This is why the ghost shows shoot in the dark. c.) Predisposition is a factor in how you interpret things you don't understand or can't reconcile. If a believer and a non-believer experience the same thing, the believer will more readily assert the cause to be supernatural. Then there's the idea of the fantasy-prone personality, people who are inclined to assign supernatural cause to most anything. Once again, sorry to be a party pooper so close to Halloween. I'm still fascinated by paranormal subjects, but I have yet to encounter any evidence which compels me to believe there is anything supernatural going on. I do tend to believe in ghosts or spirits. Our bodies are energy and energy can only transfer, it never truly dies. I however do not take any sort of religious view of it because I'm not that kind of person to begin with.
I do have one story. A couple of days after my father passed away, I received a message on the answering machine that sounded like it was coming from a crowded party and I heard someone who sounded like one of my fathers best friends who had died a few months earlier say "Gary, you can't talk to them...". And then the message stopped. Gary was of course my fathers name and I swear the other voice sounded very familiar, like his friend. I'm still not sure what to make of it. Coincidence or a message from my father? |

Kryptonic, did you keep the tape?
I've also experienced something weird, but it can also be explained as a prank though. So my experience has not convinced me on anything. There's this old house (yeah, cliché) in Nuuk, I was going there to get some kind of form, to fill out, don't remember what for. I went up the stairs to the entrance and I saw the door was locked, I rang the bell and there was no reaction. Then suddenly the door unlocked and I waited a couple of seconds for the door to be opened, but nothing happened. So I opened and there was nobody. I went in and looked around and nobody was there. I went out again and saw a sign that said they had moved to another building. Slightly perplexed I closed the door... and then suddenly the door locked again by itself ![]() WTF? I knew nobody was in the radius of the door. But this was most likely a prank ![]() |

I'm not sure. It was on an old machine so there may have been an actual tape. I'd have to look for it.

I'm not sure I believe in ghosts but I remember something which happened to me which kind of freaked me out.
At the end of the day in work we have to go and close the heavy metal gates that are in front of all the fire exits. One of the exits is at the end of a corridor in the far corner of the store. I go into the corridor and take 4 - 5 steps in when an alarm goes off. I assumed someone else had caused it so I carried on without thinking. When I reached the fire exit at the end I noticed it had been opened slightly. I slam it shut, lock the metal gate and head back. When I got back my manager asked me why I had opened the door as it meant she had to de-activate the alarm. How could I tell her I didn't? The door that was open was a thick metal one with the bars going across that you have to push to open the door. Whilst I didn't hear anything while in the corridor, if the door had been opened earlier the alarm would have been going off already. ![]() |

Last year I was playing COD4, it between 4 and 5 am. Whenever some scenes transition, the screen goes black for a second or two. When the screen went blank, I saw a this silhouette standing right behind me. I turned around and there was nothing there. I don't sleep much so I shrugged it off as me seeing things.
